Messages will have a *new* icon but doesn't clear, even if all messages are deleted. Also have a convo window that I can't exit out of. Force Quit, Reboot, none of it will get rid of the convo window. Sometimes reboot will get rid of the new icon

It's really hard to debug a problem when the computer is not in front of you. I don't know what to tell you except that because Messages is in beta, it's really buggy. Maybe you can find more help in the Messages Beta forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/messages_beta
