How is it, I wonder, that I can install Leopard without a hiccup, boot from the brand-new HDD into Leopard, run software update, THEN when I attempt to install Snow Leopard off my retail white-label-with-cat DVD that I end up with a @#($@#$ brick???

Dumps me to a gray screen which dumps to a BLACK screen -- SHUT DOWN. Cannot reboot to the HDD nor to the (useless) Snow Leopard DVD. I've zapped the PRAM and SMC. I've prayed to various dieties. And I STILL do not have a bootable Snow Leopard installation. I've installed Leopard half a dozen times in the past twelve hours and I am out of humor.

I can't use my (*$@#(*$ Time Machine backup since it was backed up UNDER SNOW LEOPARD which I cannot install. Do you want me to believe that a DVD just somehow went bad like a rotten grape?

Best guess now: create a bootable flash drive, use disk utility to bless it and copy the SL DVD to it, try and boot off of it. Of course I couldn't put my claws on an 8GB flash drive (WHERE IS IT?) so I ordered one from amazon. I'll wait for it to get here and try that.

Otherwise? Find another SL DVD? COUGHpaininthenuts

I thought I'd have to be running Vista to get this frustrated over a hardware issue. Whatever it is. This was supposed to be a no-brainer.
