How to change Apple Id in iMessage

Hi

When switching on iMessage I get the iMessage password screen but for some reason my apple Id is displayed incorrectly and therefore I can't verify.

How can I change it ?

Thanks.

Not without going through your purchased music and apps in iTunes, clicking on Get Info and looking at the Account field on the summary tab (which indicates the Apple ID used to purchase it). And even then, you may have an Apple ID that you never purchased anything with so it wouldn't show up by checking your purchases in iTunes.

I think you're going to have to contact iTunes store support for help with this: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html. The "unable to verify email because it is already in use" is usually an indication that the email address associated with the Apple ID you are trying to use has already been verified and associated with another Apple ID (you can only verify an email address with a single Apple ID). If so, you would either have to log into this other Apple ID and delete the email address from the ID profile, or log into the Apple ID you are trying to use now (at https://appleid.apple.com>Manage your account>Sign In) and add a new alternate email address to the ID that can be verified.

I'm having a similar problem. iMessage won't let me sign into a different account. I recently discovered I could change my pre-existing apple ID. I changed it but everything linked to it didn't get the memo. I've gone and re-logged in with anything linked to the old ID but iMessage and FaceTime for iPad won't let me sign out without inputting my password for my old ID. Problem is it won't accept a password because it doesn't exist. I've tried changing the iCloud account but iMessage and FaceTime are unaffected.

Hello Randers,

It looks like you are the real guru here.

Please help me with the following:

I have given my old Ipd to my son, who is living seperately from me.

Now I recently found out that all my text messaging is appearing on his Ipad, and my ex enjoys all the conversations there...

I have now disabled Imessaging on my Iphone, but that does not seem the perfect solution.

I still want my son to be able to purchase games on my account.

Wiping out the other Ipad is also another but very cruel solution.

Maybe I can change my Icloud settings on my devices which I have under control? Would changing my Apple Id password help?

Would apreciate the solution, thanks!

You should be able to just take his iPad and in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, to sign out of your AppleID account and either sing into his, or just not have him sign into anything.

iTunes is separate from iMessages, so that can still remain to be signed into your account, so your son can purchase games.

If for whatever reason you will have issues signing out of your account on your old iPad, turn off iMessages, then turn off iPad for few minutes, turn it back on and try to sign out then. There was the only way I was able to sign out myself, when I change my primary Apple ID email on my account.

Hope that helps. 🙂

Okay so I just had this problem and I solved it like this:

Go to i message then click on send and receive then click on ur apple id. Then write random psswords till the box that has the option for resting ur password pops up. Then click reset. Then there is an option for changing ur Id. Then all u need to do is to fill in ur correct ID and password. If this didn't work, after clicking on changing apple ID, exit out and then go to setting again.

Can someone help...I just changed my apple ID and logged out of iCloud on my Mac. I logged back into iCloud but now my iMessage is not working on both my Mac and my iPhone and neither is FaceTime. Everytime I try to send a message on either it says "message not delivered" or "message could not be sent because recipient is not registered with iMessage" even though I know for a fact they are. I am very stressed, please help

Hi,

I went through all the tips and none of them work for me. I recently changed my Apple ID email and it now asks for the password for my old Apple ID email when I try and log into iMessage.

1) I am now logged out of iMessage. When I go to "Send/receive" > "Use your Apple ID for iMessage", it automatically pops up the entry for my old email. In other words, I can't click the "Use your Apple ID for iMessage" and proceed normally.

2) Then, if I try and insert the wrong password several times, I only get a "reset password" option, not an option to change my Apple ID. I tried resetting my password but that did not help either.

HELP! How do I insert my new email?
