When I try to play samples of the songs on iTunes, the song only lasts a few seconds instead of playing to theend.
The sample songs on iTunes only play for a few seconds - do not continue to the end.

This has been a problem for a lot of users - including me. I tried everything iTunes/Apple recommended and more. I cannot get the preview to work. Sometimes if I grab the little diamond I can get more of the song. It is so frustrating. Anyone find a solution that doesn't involve uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting, flushing the DNS, reconfiguring the virus program, the firewall, and W7 updates? I've done it all with no luck.

Thanks so much for your reply. Good to know it's not just me. The funny thing is that occasionally one track won't play properly, but another one will (but that's the exception by far). If you find out anything else, would appreciate your letting me know. Again, thank you.
Amazon Jackie and everyone else out there having this problem,
On June 22 Apple suggested to me as follows:
I have taken your case to one of our iTunes store engineers and they have let me know that in most cases disabling any anti-virus software or firewalls often resolves this issue.
If you do have an anti-virus program such as Norton Anti-Virus. You may want to try temporarily disabling that to try and resolve the issue.
As if. As if I would disable my anti-virus software just to listen to song previews on iTunes. This is about the fifth suggestion Apple has sent me. Each one gets less and less realistic and more and more outlandish. What's next? My prediction: "Please use iTunes on a Mac. We feel sure that this will resolve the problem"
Dibs82 ... That's a good one! Yeah, disabling doesnt work anyway.
Disabling firewall? Who are these jokers anyway. Thought these Apple drones were supposed to be so smart. Ridiculous.
They probably don't know how to fix it. Dopes.
I have noticed the same problem recently. I've found that if I keep trying to sample the same song several times in a row it will usually, eventually, play for most of the alloted time. So, what has changed on my PC?
Let me think, why of course it's ITune software updates. Imagine that. It's not my anti-virus or my firewall. Why is it these software people find it so hard to believe that their own software changes could possibly be at fault!
1. Use these DNS:Google and Verizon DNS |
---|
Primary DNS = 8.8.8.8 Secondary DNS = 4.2.2.1 |
2. Then apply these instructions: |
---|
Windows XP
|
Windows Vista and Windows 7
|
Your problem should be 100% solved 🙂
Flushing the DNS was definitly the issue. I have Win8 beta on here and tried using iTunes on it and had the same problem. So I concluded it was the OS but wasn't sure where to fix it. Out of all the forms talking about sample songs rebuffereing this is the only post that fixed the issue.
I'm glad to hear the DNS fush resolves the problem but I nee3d clarification. I'm not sure what to do with the Google and Verizon DSN ip addresses. Do I have to specify these somewhere prior to doing the 'flushdns'. Thanks
I don't know if having those things makes a difference. There's a couple of idea tho you should look into:
Does Verizon have its own program on top of windows OS to connect to the Internet?
Does yahoo haves it's own as well?
Can you not rely on any third party software and still connect using ur Internet?
If so then u can just go to the CMD prompt and type into there ipconfig /dnsflush
If not, then refer to yahoo or verizon forums on how to flush the DNs with their third party software.
The one thing I hate using is third party software on top of what windows already has, this cause more of a hassle and a headache when they can just use windows configurations instead. I have found their software is a copy to what windows would do anyways and a somewhat stupid interface you don't need. Sometimes the third party program is conflicting with windows anyways.
I really don't see how DNS is going to solve this issue, DNS resolves a name to an IP address, if there is something wrong with the DNS that you are pointing to it will prevent you from getting to the site, but once you have the connection DNS will not drop your connection. It's rediculous that Apple has not fixed this issue, their loss along with the artist, if I cannot hear a song I will not buy it, come on guys get this fixed!!!!!
Agree that it's bizarre that Apple can't rectify this problem. Sometimes the entire sample is played, but, more often, it's just a snippet.
What I do is go to Amazon and listen and dl the mp3. Can also listen on Pandora, Spotify, MOG and then buy on Amazon because iTunes is so annoying. Yes, their loss.
