I am doing some work in Page Layout that requires a lot of shapes that all have to be red. The problem is that every new shape I create is black, and every single time I have to go into the color box and change the color. This is ridiculously time consuming. How do I change the default color of shapes? If it has to do with creating a template, I have no idea how to do that, and will need step by step instructions.

Change the color, wrap, etc. to your choosing. Then go to Format > Advanced > Define Default Shape Style. That will change the default for that document. If you want all new documents to do this, create your own template.
In my pages the shapes are green with a black line. Yo can change it by clicking on the format bar. See image. You can also change it in the Inspector palette > Graphic tab > Fill
You could create a document with all the shapes int the right colour and save as a document or template. Then you can use it by "copy and paste" the shapes into a new document
