What kind of networking are you using? Wireless, Wired?
Also what version of Mac OS X?
I use wireless network, and i think i i just conected to the comcast!
I am guessing you mean that you have a comcast wireless modem? is that correct?
YEs! Can u help me?
I can offer you some troubleshooting steps to see if the issue is a problem with your wireless connection or with the actual internet connection from comcast. It is often a little tricky to nail these problems down.
1st thing go to System Preferences > Network. Select the wireless connection and tell me what the numbers are for your IP Address and your Router.
* This ">" means then select.
Guessing you lost internet connection again... DOH.
Here is what to try one you get your IP Address and Router information.
Open up Terminal app by going to Applications > Utilities > Terminal
Assuming your Router number is 192.168.1.1
In terminal type: ping 192.168.1.1 -t
This will ping the router and try to get a response continuously should get responses like this:
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: ipcm_seq=0 ttl=51 time= <1 ms
Let this run while using internet. when the internet stops working, look at it. If you are still getting responses:
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: ipcm_seq=0 ttl=51 time= <1 ms
Then your problem is comcast and not your wireless, if you get:
Request Timeout for ipcm_seq0
Then the issue is your wireless connection to your modem.
Also would suggest rebooting your comcast modem (unplug, wait 30 sec, plug back in), and reboot your mac
I think the problem is that we have two. Networks! And most recently we bought new laptop. Before we got the laptop we did not have this problem!
What do you mean two networks? you have wireless from the comcast modem and from a wireless router attached to it?
TWo networks you know like for exapmle "ilim". And "ilim1" ill try thanks! Sometimes it does say timeout ocurred! ANd i got the same problem with loptop, but my ipod seem to be working okay!
If you are getting time outs when pinging the router, then the issue is with the wireless connection to the router. (your mac is losing connection to the wifi temporarly). This is likely due to some interference. If you know how, i would suggest adjusting the wireless radio channel on the wireless router / modem. This will make the wireless broadcast at a differenct frequency.
Here is a how to for a comcasr router, they are all pretty similar. I would set it to channel 11, and see if that helps.
http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/setting-up-wireless/
Where it says "the channel should be set to Auto." Set it to channel 11.
we fixed the internet speed, we called to comcast!!! thanks a lot! but the imac keeps loosing conection sometime. i ll try what u said. no more questions thanks
do you know how can i rid off one of the my networks?
If you only have the comcast modem with wireless, This will likely be a setting on the wireless router / modem that you got from comcast. Just be sure that you dont have the comcast wireless, and then a seperate router, like a linksys or netgear that is also providing wireless access.
