I'm experiencing the same problem too. And i wonder sometimes, it will be fixed. I think it's in my software is the problem,it's either it has a virus, not the volume buttons. reply ASAP🙂
I am having the same issue too. It just started last week and I have had my Nano since last August.
I have had 3 6th gen nanos( within 7 months) with this problem. The volume adjusts itself down to no sound. Will adjust back up but then goes right back down again to nothing. I have tried resetting it but will not correct the issue. Apple has just given me my 4th one. Clearly there is a problem here.
I have had the same issue with two different iPod Nanos and I think I have found my problem. Best I can tell this is humidity and/or moisture related. It always seemed to happen during or slightly after exercize. I was using one of the watch bands to keep from making contact with my arm, but that did not help.
To address the issue, I used a low heat hair dryer to throughly dry the controls (+,-). I then pressed the "-" 15-20 times very quickly and then dried it again. This solved the problem.
I now put the Nano in a zip lock bag in my pocket when I exercize. I have not had the problem since. I will keep you posted.
I would be curious if anyone else suspects moisture is the issue?
Moisture could be the problem because I've only had this problem when I clip the Nano to the collar of my shirt during a workout. I'm on my second Nano - the first one kept changing songs and randomly introduced different tracks. It's an incredibly buggy, unreliable device.
Same thing just happened to me yesterday. I have just arrived at the gym, got the earbuds on and bam! It kept lowering the volume all by itself! Thinking that it may be due to humidity or sweat, the little one is resiting in a cup full of raw rice since then. I'm gonna try to dry it out and maybe cover the button side with some PVC film or something like that, hoping it would better protect it against the elements. I use it on my wrist with a TikTak wrist watch strap.
Either way this is such a bummer. How come a gadget made with fitness in mind have so low resistence to moisture? No rubber gaskets at the buttons, no chemical water reppelent coating, no nothing? I'm pretty disappointed with this! 😟
