Is Windows even installing?
I started installing Windows 7 2 hours ago. I have three icons flashing on/off on my screen:
1. Apple logo
2. Circle with a line through it.
3. File with a question mark on it.
Is this what I should see during install?

Absolutely not, and you may have tried to install over OSX, in which case your Mac is now empty. To test, remove the dvd from the drive, restart and hold the option key as soon as you hear the chime. When the boot manager loads tell me what choices you get.
Did you use Boot Camp to prepare this install or did you just put the Windows disc in the drive?
I started the install through Bootcamp. I took out the disc and restarted. My option is a picture of my Mac hard drive. My regular computer started up when I clicked on the picture of the hard drive. I partitioned through Bootcamp before I tried the install. I removed the partition. I think everything is back to where it was before I tried to install Windows.
Can you boot to OSX?
I am back to using my iMac. Everything looks fine. I'm not sure if that is what you are asking?
Check in disk utility to see whether or not a Boot Camp partition exists.
I partitioned in Bootcamp. I do have a Boot Camp partition in disk utility.
Did I buy the wrong Windows 7? I got what the guy called the "full OS". It cost $300.
I mean $200, not $300.
$300 is a lot, but what version did you buy (not important really, all versions of W7 work).
Download and read this:http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/boot_camp_install-setup.pdf
Backup your machine (Clone or TM)
Use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition and start again.
I meant $200 for the Home Premium. I did not buy just the upgrade.
First you try and now go through and re-read.

iMac displays a black screen during installation of Windows 7
- that applies to 2010 27" though I believe
We always end up asking for more details.
Retail disc or ISO and the DVD as well as the SuperDrive and other factors,, and you will want to have 50GB set aside.
The partition part takes two minutes, the download of Lion (OS version?) takes 30 minutes or 3-9 hrs depending. Those just leave on FAT flash memory card.

That's fine, but you were overcharged, read the following post before you start again, and backup.
How do I find out which iMac I have? One of the articles said I can't use Windows 7 with iMac late 2006, which I may have.
Feels like we go backward two steps for every attempt to put one foot in front...
.... sounds like time to return to store, sounds like a copy of Windows 7 ULTIMATE which is rarely needed and not for your needs.
Windows 7 HP x64 System Builder $99 on 'Egg and others (like Amazon).
Found my year, I think.
Intro date 9/6/06
Subfamily: Late 2006
Disc. Date 8/7/2007
Looks like I do have a late 2006.
Does anyone know for sure if this is the problem with trying to install Windows 7?
Does anyone know if I can install Vista if I can't install Windows 7?
