I can't view any videos on my MacBook Pro without Adobe Flash and it is not available through Apple App Store. I do a lot of banking on my computer and I've read that Adobe Flash has a lot of problems. I'm concerned it might affect the security of my computer. Am I the only one concerned about this?

Thanks Sig. They may be correct but I would like to hear opinions from other sources.
The only site you should download Flash from is the Adobe site otherwise you may subject your Mac to malware.
Flash is not available from the App Store anyway.. it's written by Adobe. It's not an app, it's a plugin. Big difference.
If you are having problems with Flash streamed content, do the following:
Assuming you are using Safari for video, quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed Flash plugin first even if it's the most recent version.
Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

My concern was not with the installation process of Adobe Flash. Please read my question again. My question is about security. If you go to Apple's App store you will notice other Adobe products for download. I understand the difference between an app and a plug-in. That scares me even more.
System Preferences>Flash Player>Storage. You have options available should you so choose.
I would appreciate any Apple personnel with knowledge of this matter contributing if possible. Thanks.

The kerfuffle with Flash Player came when a malware writer offered to download a version of Flash Player loaded with a malware payload. The latest software updates from Apple have plugged that hole, and as long as your software is up-to-date and you download Flash Player only from the adobe site you will be fine.

Yes, the Safari 5.1.7 update added Flash-related security to the earlier Safari 5.1.6 that came with OS 10.7.4. Is there something about this that you don't like, or that worries you? If so, why? If not, I don't understand the point of your post. Can you explain?
