And so we bring you another in my series ToT: Totally off-Topic.

Never get on a bike without health insurance and an expensive, well-fitted helmet. I have broken each collarbone, a few ribs, suffered "de-gloving" (no need to look that one up -- exactly descriptive, from hip to knee), and have the (perhaps unique) distinction of having been life-flighted (helicopter ambulance) _twice_ for head injuries from bicycle crashes. Each time I shattered my helmet: they would have sent a truck, not a helicopter, had I not been properly protecting my head. In the last accident I suffered a brain-stem bleed and reversible brain damage. Not recommended. But I am here to tell you that medical science is wondrous, health insurance worthwhile, and wearing a helmet while biking vital. Literally.

This has been another in my series, ToT. We now return you to the vertiginous but wound-free world of Aperture 3.3.

In especially when riding a bike in the city or on steep hills (Kirby, do you remember the Waseberg in Hamburg-Blankenese? a slope of 16%; and there the brake cables on both my brakes broke - without a helmet I never would have had a chance to start posting in the ASC).

Still ToT:

I will have to return to refresh my memory 🙂 . In Pittsburgh, if it's not steep enough to have steps in place of a sidewalk, it's considered flat:

(No one in their right mind would have put a city here.)

Snapping a brake cable on a steep hill -- or, heaven forfend, two at once -- is pretty much the least fun you can have on a bike without involving a motor vehicle. Glad you made it to ASC, though! ( 😁 )

I have long wondered about the Aperture-biking connection. I used to get in about 5,000/yr. I know Frank rides a lot (but, ahem, his miles are shorter than mine!). Even Jonathon kept his bike wheels hot. And now you bomb down the steeps of Hamburg with no brakes (and in Hamburg, where as all Americans know the miles are only about half as long). Several other top posters are avid riders as well. This defies coincidence.
