1st gen iPad and iOS 6

I'm a first gen iPad user. I don't understand why Apple is completely neglecting us. I can understand holding off on the cooler stuff for the newer iPads but we are the people who helped the iPad turn into what it has. Atleast give us and updated email, safari and stores. Why not? Androids have had those features for awhile. Just give us the second best thing out their. Don't let your three year old product fall behind the pack of android tablets. We paid to much for that. This is an Apple product, people respect that. When people ask us if they should buy an iPad, we don't want to have to say "buy an Android, they care about you even when your device is three years old, Apple forgot about us."

I would like to know if those of us using ipad original, not able to update to ios6, will be stuck with all the built in apps like the now awful music app when they eventually get bugs fixed etc. another example of Apple leaving customers with no support for a device that isn't that old. 2 years and your $500 product is now left behind? That is pretty poor, but not surprising. Been waiting for a release for fixes to the terrible music app for a LONG time, and now we are stuck with what we have, working or not. So poor.

I've been happy with my original iPad and I fully expect that it will continue to do everything that it has been able to do during the past two years.

I'm not sure how you could be so certain about the other apps.

Why would other apps not be in a similar situation? As long as the app doesn't rely on an off-device server that someone turns off, such as the original Siri app, what would happen? I grabbed the VLC app the few weeks that it was in the iTunes App Store and even though the crew has done nothing to improve it, it still functions perfectly and is my video app of choice.

The important thing is to be vigilant. Make sure not to allow iTunes on your computer to update to an app that is not compatible with the version of iOS on your device.

I was thinking about buying the new iPhone in a few months.

But if in two years I will become obsolete as my current iPhone, I'll wait and see what happens with this situation.

I hope that Apple change its mind and give us a final update for iPad 1G.

I don't think it is so difficult to include the new frameworks or some new functionality. I'm not talking about include everything new iOS6. Something similar to what they will do with the iPhone 3GS.

All these decisions should be informed in some way so that customers could take appropriate decisions when buying a new device or not.

True, but the decision to upgrade a device must be taken by the client and not imposed by the manufacturer.

I'm not saying that products should not evolve. We live in a technological revolution.

What I am saying is that Apple should maintain the functionality of their older devices.

I mean if I have an iPhone 3G (IOS 3.2.1) can download the latest working version of any apps (eg Page) on that device and not leave me a message saying this application is not supported as in previous versions it was.

iTunes should help download older versions of the same application. So if I have a old iPhone or iPad, I can install a compatible App that was developed ago month for this device. When Pages, Keynote, Number, etc. changes to iOS6, you will can not install in your old iPad (iOS 5.1.1) and where do You find a Pages, Keynote, Numbers, etc. compatible for iOS 5.1.1?

Who has the ability to download any previous versions of the applications from the AppStore?

I mean this could give more continuity to the devices and dont force to it will become obsolete.

I think it's very simple to understand what I'm proposing. There is nothing ridiculous or silly.

aspple has my complete and total list that I sent in after every IOS update.

When viewing album artwork on iPad while listening to music, if my iPad goes into power save during this time, the music app freezes and iPad has to be restored or reset.

Annoying bug of having to have the live update unchecked to have iTunes load the songs in correct order on playlists.

Album artwork randomly gets scrambled so that the wrong album artwork is displayed with albums. Must delete all songs off Ipad and reload to fix the issue. Takes hours to reload my music library, and most of the time, it has to be reloaded twice because Itunes will skip over songs and not load everything I have checked for some reason.

When fast forwarding to next songs, if you fast forward through several in succession, the music will skip as well once you get to a song you want to listen to. Have to shut down the airplay function and reopen it to fix the skipping through music app over airtunes.

Inability to listen to all albums by single artist. Only way to do it is to go to artist page, skip backwards until the song title screen goes blank, and then hit play. If you have been listening to one hundred songs and want to change to listen to all albums by certain artists, it takes a while to skip back through all previous songs played to get to the blank screen. Older version of the Ipod app had button to play all songs by artist.

Not to mention all the issues with audiobooks. There are some nice articles published in several mac magazines and the NY Times that talk about how bad the Music app has become because Apple have tried to incorporate too many things into it, and music got left behind, like the original Ipad owners.

Inability to crossfade songs with the music app on Ipad. Seems pathetic since it is a function that is available on my Ipod Nano, and there isnot much to the nano regarding the internals compared to the Ipad.

You can easily use the search function on this site and search for Music App bugs and you will also be given a lot more bugs that have yet to be fixed in this application. A similar search for audio books issues reveals a similar list of bugs that people have been complaining about.

Maybe this is not an issue with the latest Ipad, but mine is the original, and the Music app is something I don't use anymore because it is terrible. I switched to using the remote app, and run music off my no longer supported Mac Pro.

If you want to spend over $500 on anything sold by Apple, you are better off just purchasing the stock. It will last longer and be supported for longer than a few years, unlike their products.

Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. I didn't upgrade from iPhone 4 to 4S, I am not upgrading from iPad 2 to "new".

In what way is your iPad 1 less functional now than when you bought it? The new model of my car now having on dash GPS doesn't make my car less functional than it has always been.

I can totally see why Apple is constantly evolving, building better devices, etc, it produces huge amounts of income for the company.

Why would Apple want to cut their own financial throat by making all the new bells and whistles compatible with their original products? Why would they want their latest Apps to work on their original and older models?

What would be your incentive as a consumer to pull your wallet out and again spend hundreds and perhaps thousands of dollars?
