1st gen iPad and iOS 6

I'm a first gen iPad user. I don't understand why Apple is completely neglecting us. I can understand holding off on the cooler stuff for the newer iPads but we are the people who helped the iPad turn into what it has. Atleast give us and updated email, safari and stores. Why not? Androids have had those features for awhile. Just give us the second best thing out their. Don't let your three year old product fall behind the pack of android tablets. We paid to much for that. This is an Apple product, people respect that. When people ask us if they should buy an iPad, we don't want to have to say "buy an Android, they care about you even when your device is three years old, Apple forgot about us."

It is becoming painfully obvious that Apple has entered a nasty new marketing stage or business plan. And that is: release a product and just 1 or 2 OS releases for it and the next OS won't run on your device and then the application developers will stop supporting the original hardware or OS you stuck with forcing you to buy new hardware!

Look at the demise of MobileMe. Worked perfectly fine for me. Yet Jobs kept belittling it to set up retiring it for iCloud. I have a Mac Pro which I love and has years of use left. I also love Snow Leopard and the ability to sync my iPad, iPhone and iCal and Address Book on my computer via MobileMe. But now I MUST upgrade to Lion so I can run iCloud.

And with Lion there are a number of perfectly working applications like: Adobe Creative Suite 5, FileMaker 9, Toast Titanium 8, MS Office 2008 all of which may or may not work or work well on Lion.

So for the sole reason of wanting to sync using Apple sync medodology, I am FORCED to upgrade to Lion, migrate to iCloud and spend a fortune on 3rd party software to work under Lion.

That's the software version of the hardware forced upgrade.

And who knows what's in store when Mountain Lion comes out? I hear my Mac Pro won't run it.

I understand moving the technological ball forward but I sense some else going on here where certain functions, canceling MobileMe, which the forces you to spend thousands of dollars just so you can sync your Apple mobile devices?

That's obscene. After all I'm already supporting Apple by owning an iPad, iPhone, Mac Pro, iLife and all the things I buy at the Apple Store and App Store.

ICloud should have allowed us MM users to migrate without having to upgrade to Lion. I've been an avid Apple owner, evangelist and user since 1985. For the first time I must admit I am very upset with Apple.

Past the gorgeous hardware and smiley faces at the Apple stores lies a lot manipulation. For the first time, I'm beginning to tire of it.

Since the iPad1 won't get iOS6, won't iOS5.1 still be signed and available for the iPad1?

I'm with you Paul, I would believe that it would be, however, I was shouted down using that logic in the past by a number of folks here. (If I get a chance I will search for the thread. I merited the ire of many on this point.)

For example, iOS4 is still signed and available for the iPhone 3G as is iOS3 for the 2G.

Are you sure of that? There are those who told me that coudn't possibly be true.

I'm positive of that. Many people here have recently updated old iphones to iOS3 and iOS4 and I've personally restored my old 3G since iOS5 was released and it installed iOS4. Though I do regret updating it from iOS3 to iOS4. It was a good reason to get the 4S for me but my daughter complains about how slow her 3G is sometimes. 😉

I would like to know if those of us using ipad original, not able to update to ios6, will be stuck with all the built in apps like the now awful music app when they eventually get bugs fixed etc. another example of Apple leaving customers with no support for a device that isn't that old. 2 years and your $500 product is now left behind? That is pretty poor, but not surprising. Been waiting for a release for fixes to the terrible music app for a LONG time, and now we are stuck with what we have, working or not. So poor.
