1st gen iPad and iOS 6

I'm a first gen iPad user. I don't understand why Apple is completely neglecting us. I can understand holding off on the cooler stuff for the newer iPads but we are the people who helped the iPad turn into what it has. Atleast give us and updated email, safari and stores. Why not? Androids have had those features for awhile. Just give us the second best thing out their. Don't let your three year old product fall behind the pack of android tablets. We paid to much for that. This is an Apple product, people respect that. When people ask us if they should buy an iPad, we don't want to have to say "buy an Android, they care about you even when your device is three years old, Apple forgot about us."

Well, nothing forces to me to update, but when I update my paid Apps from itunes I dont watch if this update will not work in my iPad.

Since now, I will be very care to update anything.

If I need to restart in future, I will not can install Page or Numbers if they were updated to iOS6.

I think it is not ridiculous in nothing.

Why are you inventing problems? You have no clue how the original iPad will be affected. Grow up.

No problem,

Please note that the beta software is held under NDA and Confidentiallity agreements, so information that can be shared publically is limited.

The 1st gen iPad is an old device, with an old chip. With each software update, comes deep changes within the OS. Sometimes, software is not built or tested with older devices, as so many features would be incompatible, it is almost pointless to use the manpower. Also note many features in iOS 6 are compatible only with newer devices, such as 'flyover' which is only working on iPad 2 and above, and iPhone 4S and above.

The iPad is a large device, with many pixels to render, and this uses more power than the iPhone 3GS for example, even though it has a faster chip.

No specific system requirements are available.

Nonsense!

Apart from NDA and Flyover.

'it is almost pointless to use the manpower' 30 million people disagree with you I would guess.

'iOS5 has been very well optimized even on iPad 1.'

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion (assumption) that the issue is going to be bigger than iPad 1. It would make sense to approach the iOS upgrade removing products now, but scraping a couple through such as the iPad2 if the performance was just usable on these devices to avoid a PR meltdown.

With iOS 6 shipping in fall with a new iPhone and probably iPad, these would be able to take advantage of Arm's new chips in the foundry using the latest CortexA15 and coincinding with a larger series refresh of mobile processor technology using the new command set coming in Arms offerings. This would give a correlation between the majority of the supported platforms outlined, ie (nothing to do with a4 not being close enough to A5 more what the A5 is missing) and the feature set exposed in the CortexA15.

Thus on release iOS6 will then be the reason to upgrade to iPad (Series 2) Gen 2 as even though iOS 6 will work on iPad Series 1 Gen 2 and Series 2 Gen 1 there will be a markable differential between the experiences which will increasse rapily with iOS6.1 .2 etc as features are excluded from these revisons for the newly legacy machines. Thus although iOS 6 could work as is, it will shortly be unusable on iPad 1 and to allow users to upgrade to iOS 6 but not to 6.1 or 6.2 would cause a greater negetive response to revisions of iOS 6 as they role out. In addition the 3-4 months until release prepares these owners for that upgrade surge so you flip 15 million+ users to iPad Series 2 Gen 2 immediately ostracising the concerns of iPad 2 owners as they are now a minority group and negating the lack lustre iPad new sales. Clever!

Ultimately this will hasten the full transition to ARMv7-A within 12 months of iOS6's release , interestingly this could make a sweet convergence

point for OS X & iOS as this generation of ARM chips would give the Air's chipset a run for their money.

Just a thought!

The iPad 1 could not physically handle many of the new features. Therefore, why develop for it. Many apps are no longer compatible, I had multiple problems with slow downs on mine in iOS 5, and was relieved to finally be able to open more than 2 internet tabs without them unloading when I upgraded.

I have had no problems with my ipad and I cannot beleve they are already closing the doors on the Ipad 1. I only bought this under a year ago in a trip to america. And i dont know if this is true but i found that someone said this:

'This is PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE and in the UK it is ILLEGAL.'

Is this true?

And could you shine some light on it please?

As a refurb, they don't make them. Don't twist my words, I'm leaving this thread.

I could probiably guess you dont have a ipad.

But some of us just just paid about £360 less that a year ago for somthing that has been kicked out.

After looking on wikipedia i found this:

Planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence in industrial design is a policy of planning or designing a product with a limited useful life, so it will become obsolete.

And

In the United Kingdom, planned obsolescence engineered into products is considered a breach of customer rights.

Nathan,

thanks I agree the product is still being sold so end of, I hope you have not got offended and despite a number of my posts being censored for no good reason, I don't think this topic is going away, more people who own this product will become aware of this and it could be a real problem.

This issues needs to be addressed quickly by apple, this is heading towards a 4G scandal again!
