Mavericks doesn't either. My 27" monitor that I connect via hdmi on my MacBook Pro retina maxes out at 1080p, however when I disconnect my cintiq and goto settings, I can raise it. When I boot into my win8 partition, monitor has all resolutions available, so it's a software glitch, just like the dual monitor support that's basically exposee

Just as an FYI, I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina and recently purchased an ASUS PB278Q 27" monitor. I plugged an HDMI 1.4 cable that was bought from BestBuy and plugged it directly into the HDMI port on ASUS monitor. Works like a charm. No configuration issues, just worked perfectly. HDMI (from MBPr) to HDMI (ASUS monitor). I get the full 2560x1440 resolution. I had no need to buy a special cable. ALL HDMI direct.User uploaded file

I am using 10.9.3 Beta. https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/landing

To be honest, I started using the Beta which was publicly released prior to buying the new monitor. So I never tried it on 10.9.2. So it could be coincidence that the 10.9.3 Beta version is what resolved it. However, as of two weeks of using the beta, I have had no issues with the OS. It runs just as well as 10.9.2 with some performance improvements. I use my Mac extensively for school, work, video conversions, CAD, and other process intensive apps with no problems to report.

Hope that helped. You can sign up and download the beta version of OSX 10.9.3 that is open to the public and see for yourself. I would recommend it.

Hi,

I have my MacBook Pro Retina (model 10,1) connected to a 30" Dell Monitor since yesterday. Works at 2560x1600 with the Mini DisplayPort - HDMI cable that came with the monitor, and also with a Mini Display Port - Mini Display Port cable. When using HDMI, it also works, but the quality is visibly lower - there are blurs around the letters. I tried 2 different HDMI cables, no visible difference (Apple original, and one from Amazon). I also tested those cables on a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 - and there I get 2560x1600 at excellent quality, with sharp and clear letters. So it looks as if the HDMI output from the MacBook Pro isn't quite what it should be.

I also have the ASUS PB278Q. Annoyingly it does seem to work ok with the HDMI cable when the screen isn't rotated, but, when the screen is rotated 90 degrees the monitor does not work properly with the HDMI cable. It causes the resolution options to max out at 1080p. With any of the cable combinations I have available, of which I have several, the resolution fails to max out at 90 degrees rotation. So it is then that I have ordered a "4k ready" mini display port to display port cable for about 15 bucks off Amazon and will post here what the results are.
