I posted this in another thread on this subject and at it worked for at least one person in addition to myself:

"I found in one thread in a different forum that the problem could be related to some "Lockdown" folder on the iDevice. I tried various suggestions, deleting, or changing permissions on a couple of such folders on my iPad, but nothing helped. I have also tried two different computers, even a Macbook Air, without success.

Then I found the folder C:\ProgramData\Apple\Lockdown. It contains SystemConfiguration.plist and <deviceid>.plist for all synced devices. I found that the .plist file for the failing iPad was missing on the computer where I am now located (traveling on vacation), while it exists on my computer back home (halfway around the world). So I copied the missing <deviceid>.plist file from my remote computer, which I fortunately left running and have full access to via Hamachi.

Voila, sync now works without any problems on the previously failing iPad 3 😀

Of course, this fix only works if you have access to some computer where sync has previously worked at least once. I think the only other solution is to Erase All Content and Setting and restore from backup which now hopefully(!) works."

In case you have other "working itunes" just follow these instructions and copy the whole folder C:\ProgramData\Apple\Lockdown from it onto the problematic computer. Make sure it contains both files mentioned by n808n808

SystemConfiguration.plist and <deviceid>.plist for your previously synced device.

It was the only solution for me!

Thank you for the great advice !!!

Dear n808n808, this was a great advice! I looked "all over the internet", found many referrals and could not find any working answer. My problem was that the harddisk in my laptop crashed and syncing on my desktop gave the stated problem: unknown error 0xE8000012, iTunes cannot connect to this iPhone. Also after replacing my defective HDD by a new SDD and installing iTunes freshly new, I still had the same problem. But fortunately, I could connect my old HDD via USB and found the Lockdown folder on it. YOUR SOLUTION WORKS!

thank you! 😎

I try the n808n808 solution. At first time do not work. BUT:

  1. 1. Uninstall all the apple application from my PC. (icloud, bonjour, etc)
  2. 2. Remove all the Itune Library (myLibrary\music\itune) but first make a backup the applications there for later use.
  3. 3. Put the contains (as n808n808 is refered)
  4. 4. Install again the iTune
  5. 5. Put the applications at iTune library
  6. 6. And it WORKED my GOD!!!!
  7. 7. Thanks n808n808

and sync now works in my iPhone
