Well, having gone into the Apple Store, and having had the manager review the issue of Ipad redundancy by the back door, or as the genius guy describing it accurately as 'death by proxy', Ipad have decided to give me $300 off a new Ipad, so that I will have paid out $1600 for one Ipad to work as described.

I am led to believe that this $300 gift is good, and as I think I only paid $700 for the first one, perhaps the $400 loss is liveable, provided when IOS 10 comes out in 2 years time, the same thing doesn't happen.

But the good news for all the semi-convinced out there, is if you jump up and down enough, and tell the truth about this redundancy, in store, Apple are making concessions....which they wouldn't do, unless it was a real problem and they were taking some responsibility. This doesn't help me, particularly, unless anyone out there would like a US, mint condition Ipad 1 64GB, for a good price. If not, Ebay, here I come...

It wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that I was told by the developer of an app that only runs on IOS6 that he was not allowed to publish any more unless it would only run on 6 and not on 5. Thanks but I'm glad I had the foresight to buy one of the new Windows8 tablets. Much more usable platform anyway.

Do those tablets run IOS-6?

It's all part of Apple's conspiracy to kill off the iPad1 in the hope that those afflicted will buy a shiny new one.

Intel is about to release their "hastert" family of CPUs whiich will allow a full blown Windows 8 (not the Applesque RT) tablet to achieve ten hours of use on a single battery charge. These new tablets will use a standard PC architecture, hence be compatible with Windows 8, Linux, intel Android, and perhaps (kexts be willing) osx. If I need to buy a shiny new toy, it will be one of them.

Apple has disappointed many people lately. I know lots of apple customers who have recently left apple because of the disappointment they received from the products they used to have. I myself will be fallowing these many people if apple doesn't get their act together because I have been let down by getting left behind on the update process. The economy we are facing and the cuts many people are dealing with, we cant all afford new products. I spend over $1,000 on my first generation iPad and I can hardly do anything with it because nothing supports the 1st iPad anymore. I believe we should get our money back or receive at least the second generation iPad so we wont be left to dust. In fact, I'll even be happy enough if the first generation iPad gets some sort of update to fix all the bugs and get us caught up somewhere. Apple, a good company that wants to achieve better and be better then all the other's doesn't leave their customers behind. I really hope to see some improvement somewhere. Also if you know your going to stop supporting the product not many years after its released then don't make the product so expensive. Its a waste and you wont get as many customers wanting the product. More customers buying the product means more money to the company.

Show me where Tim Cook or anyone from Apple said iOS 7 had been delayed. I wasn't expecting it until the fall anyway with the release of a new iPhone, etc.

How would you propose that Apple make iOS 7 compatible with the iPad 1? Should they strip out all the features and graphic driver added to iOS 6 then explain to all the people using newer iPads why they don't have those features anymore?

I hope you don't work for apple. That is an attitude that I have never liked about apple. The arrogance, of apple customers. Glad I can say that I have never experienced that from an actual employee. I just wish apple would provide more of an official voice on these boards and, at least, take some notice of the concerns of their customers. As a customer and a share holder who sees the value of my products and stock declining, I feel there is a disconnect. The marketplace is far more competitive with other options that didn't exist just a year ago. Apple needs to work a little harder to maintain their market or they will continue to loose share. And, The customers will cease to be as special and exclusive as their attitudes indicate they feel. What ever happened to Betamax. It was superior to VHS and their customers thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. But, competition came in that was more responsive to customer demand and albeit less quality, took over the market. Quality alone isn't going to suffice. Value is important also. An $800 Ipad with a life expectancy of 2 years isn't going to sit well with VALUE.

Here's your golden opportunity! Sell your iPad on eBay and use the money to purchase a product more to your liking.

Apple iOS 7 Delayed, But New iPhone Won't Be

Apple's next-gen iOS platform appears to be behind schedule, but the company is still ramping up production for the next iPhone.

Apple iPhone 5S: The Hot Rumors

It is taking longer to develop iOS 7 then perhaps Apple believed it would, because the company has pulled engineers off of Apple's main desktop operating system to help with its mobile platform. The comments about the delay come from John Gruber, long recognized as someone with an inside track at things going on in Cupertino.

Apple released iOS 6 in September 2012, just ahead of the iPhone 5's debut, and released iOS 5 in fall 2011, just ahead of the iPhone 4S's debut. Before these two fall debuts, Apple released new versions of iOS during the summer months. Given Apple's recent track record of releasing new mobile operating system versions each fall, many expected iOS 7 to arrive at about the same time. Gruber's comments call to question that thinking.

One reason behind the possible delay is designer Jony Ive's addition to the iOS team. Ive has been the head of Apple's hardware designs for years, and was brought in to refresh the look and feel of iOS in October of last year. iOS has not changed its basic appearance since its 2007 debut. Many believe it is past due for a refreshed look.

"Life expectancy of 2 years? Really?

In a related story: GM has announced that all vehicles manufactured prior to December 31st, 2012 will cease to work when the 2014 model is introduced. If your car ceases to function due to this built in obsolescence while you are driving on the freeway, please pull off the travelled portion of the highway as quickly as possible.
