iPad
It is probably worth mentioning that on March 2nd, I visited Apple Store Covent Garden, and after several discussions with Geniuses, they realised and quoted this activity as "redundancy by the back door" and offered me £200 ($300+) off ANY new Ipad, as compensation. Now, why would I want to do that? Assuming that this isn't just a randon mistake, it must be policy, and if it's policy, they will do it again.
But now I'm wiser, so I will just hang fire, until the Surface Pro 2 comes out! 🙂
Aha, well in this case it kind of does mean precisely that, not instantly of course, but over a fairly short period definitely. Because iTunes is willy hilly overwriting all your purchased apps, one day soon u will wake up and find that (unless u happen to have managed to work out which was the last working version of every app for your no longer supported iOS, and have a back up of those precise files slmewhere, well documented), that you really have no idea how you are going to get your iPad 1 to work as wonderfully as it did 6-12 months ago, because all your favourite apps will be long gone down the trash can to oblivion.
Hmmm, I paid nigh on $900 for my iPad1 and another fortune on 450+ apps. £200 is maybe ok'ish, but honestly , I'd rather keep my apps working and my iPad 1 in at least as good a state as it was when I bought it. Not rapidly degenerating like some early case of dementia.
Lenovo may call it a "tablet" but it is closer to a netbook and is part of the Thinkpad family. Lenovo sales people position it as a competitor to the MacBook Air, not the iPad.
So now show me a true tablet that has user memory upgrades, troll.
Intelligent people are not dumping their iPad 1s into landfills. It still does what they want to do with it. It is time for you to move on, you like nothing about the iPad, you have no concept of what goes on with programming, computers or small electronics, you are just a plain old-fashioned troll.
Would you care to post the employees name who told you that? Or persons? Were they executives with Apple?
If I paid that much for apps I would certainly be backing them up. But even with buying the iWorks apps I don't come anywhere close.
You can upgrade both the RAM & the SSD on the ViewSonic VIEWPAD10.
Many of the new upcoming Intel HASWELL tablets will have upgrade options. You could probably even Hackintosh one of them if you need your Apple "fix"
I can still run software from the 90s on windows if I want.
6.0 made many of my apps useless on my ipad. The forcing iPad users to buy a new every couple of os revs has one unintended consequence!
Bye bye Apple iPad iPhone hello Surface.
Well, I can still run leaded fuel in my MGB...but I'm not ready to say, goodbye Prius, hello MG! The reason that you can run 90's software on Windows is that Windows is pretty much the same, under the hood, as it was in the 90's. However, try opening an Excel file from the latest version in any older version and see what happens.

Actually, you can open an Office Excel 2007/10/13 workbook in an earlier version of Excel
For backward compatibility and collaboration with earlier versions of Microsoft Office Excel, you can use one of two ways to open Microsoft Office Excel 2007/10/13 workbooks in an earlier version of Excel. You can either use the earlier binary file format (.xls) or the new XML-based file format (.xlsx) to exchange workbooks between different versions of Excel.
To ensure that a workbook that you save in Office Excel 2007/10/13 can be opened in an earlier version of Excel, you can save a copy that is fully compatible with Excel 97-2013(.xls) in Excel 2007/10/13.
Users who use an earlier version of Excel can also download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats to install updates and converters for the earlier version of Excel. This allows them to open, edit, and save an Excel 2007/10/13 workbook in the earlier version of Excel, without having to save it to that version's file format first or without having to upgrade the earlier version of Excel to Excel 2007/10/13.
I just finally got permission to spend £500 on a 40" HD 3D wireless enabled TV set to replace the 28" bog standard TV I bought for £800 around ten years ago. All computing/phone (which is now the category) devices are changing much faster. Live with it.
Tonefox:
How would you feel if the TV was merely 2 years old, NOT TEN? That's how I feel about my iPad1 😉
As I said: "All computing/phone (which is now the category) devices are changing much faster. Live with it."
A car made in the 1930s may well still work. Just because the manufacturer has brought out a new car this year does not make the old car work any the less.

(CNN) -- Next time Grandma asks why you're going to the mall on Sunday morning instead of church, tell her you're going to Apple Chapel.
For Apple fans, the brand triggers a reaction in the brain that's not unlike that of religious devotees, according to a BBC documentary series that cites neurological research.
The neuroscientists ran a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test on an Apple fanatic and discovered that images of the technology company's gadgets lit up the same parts of the brain as images of a deity do for religious people, the report says.
