I've been screaming artificial obsolescense since they locked iMovie and iPhoto off the original iPad, now they're forcing me not to get their latest OS. Apple show extreme customer disservice at every opportunity.

If you don't think they do this, why are they selling a connector so people can use their iPhone 5 with the docks and devices they already own, for $30 - ÂŁ25 in the UK, even bigger rip off! They should have included at least one with every iPhone 5, but no chance, not while there's maximum profit to extract from loyal customers.

I bought my iPad 1 on a 3-year credit deal through Apple... I am still paying for it. I feel it's unfair to abandon the device in less than 3 years, and I resent still giving you money for it!

I love all this bantering. I have, let me see, a bunch of i devices. While I am upset that iOS 6 will not go onto the 1st gen iPad, I am OK with it as it would slow it down if I would have to guess with all the other stuff they added.

My favorite analogy here is the fact that Motorola comes out with a new phone every 4 - 6 months. How do you think those people feel. Apple is a once a year shop and they make it work well. What can they come up with next...I have ideas except they are all concept.

Enjoy the iPhone 5 and 3rd gen iPad for the next year and get the next thing then...

Keeping up with technology in the Apple world is so much easier then in the fragmented world...

> Then I don't see what the problem is. iOS 6 is not a necessity.

It IS a necessity when developers all start making their app not run on iOS5. As I said before, I've seen developers drop support for iOS4 for several of the apps I use heavily. It now panics me to think that by this time next year, they'd do the same thing for iOS5 and my iPad would be locked out.

> Who says you have to buy a new iPad? Is your iPad 1 still working just the way it worked yesterday

> BEFORE iOS 6 was released? Of course it does!!! Apple didn't zap it from the Cloud, rendering it

> unuseable! If it still serves your needs, then it's fine running iOS 5.1.1!

See above. I'm now upset that various developers are dropping iOS4 support from their apps. Very soon (i.e. this time next year), iOS5 support will go too and all iPad1 owners will be screwed. And even if you argue that older version of the apps will still work fine, then you have never used an app which depends on web services.

This is the most frustataing aspect of Apples lifecycle management the way they force your hand into buying a new device.

Ok so i agree your Ipad will run, but already i can see apps on the store for IOS6.

It was like the old 3g model one update they did just Killed the phone into a slow piece of Junk, and in essance, nothing on that update actually looked any diff, if they were wise developers they would make each oppsys adadpt to the hardware and disable unnessasary services etc.

I,ll still buy them, but its something that always annoys me the way they just dont decide to support the device.

And FFS iphone 3GS and not IPAD 1 come on apple sort it out. Microsoft would never do this, they would just let you decide.

First post probably last

iPad 1 iPad 2 iPhone 4 and 4s etc really building out a apple base in my place

Yes all OS are frustrating and have issues - really all of you know this and don't want to hear me bang on about it

But like a few of you here (and as an early adopter) and as someone about to consider an iMac 27 inch I am now rethinking my position because of this update policy and will probably go windows again

Apple won't care and some of you will have your strong views but I for one have forayed into apple land for about 3 years fairly heavily with an intention to stay but will now go focus back on windows

For me and about a dozen I know this decision to drop support is bad. Hey guess what apple if you win disgruntled windows voters but then dump on them they may leave. If tablet and technology wars are like elections then your longer term in office may be hitting a rough patch
