Jul 29, 2012 8:35 PM in response to Shaun Bromleyby xtremecarbon,If you look around on the App Store, most apps (currently) only require iOS 4, sometimes iOS 3 to run. Sure, this may change in the future, but the most "popular" apps have a wide range of devices that can run them. Contact the developer of your choice if you want to know more about iOS system requirements.
By the way, should an app ever be updated to exclude your device/iOS build, save copies of your older app verisons. They can be manually installed via iTunes for your computer, should you want to live with the App Store icon always displaying a red 1 or greater.

Aug 2, 2012 7:50 PM in response to motox33by RAMChYLD,I am very upset to hear that Apple won't be providing iOS 6 for the first iPad. Especially since just a few weeks ago I heard rumors that there were developer previews of iOS6 for the first iPad.
I myself am an iPad1 user. I cannot afford to upgrade to a new iPad or even an iPad2 at the moment. For most part, I still use it for everything- from games, to web browsing and mail to work. If Apple forces me out by discontinuing support of these iPads, then I must say that I am very disappointed in Apple for making such a shortsighted decision.

Aug 3, 2012 3:27 AM in response to RAMChYLDby Kieron6241,I'm in the same boat. My wife bought me am iPad 1 for my 40th last year, it's all she could afford. Now, a little over a year later, we've been told that it's virtually obselete. I've always said that Apple customer care is excellent, but they're letting so many people down in this case, especially given that earlier models of the iPod are going to get ios6.

Aug 11, 2012 9:59 AM in response to motox33by budazz,Its been said here a few times Apple no longer sells the Ipad 1, that would be the main reason not only that but the owners of a 3g compared to a ipad are very vast numbers, also all those people that claim to be a dedicated, loyal, apple customer....if your so loyal and dedicated why are you still using an ipad 1? NEWS FLASH APPLE HAS MADE 2 OTHER IPADS!!!!!!!! that support more enhanced technology like iOS 6.0 unlike iPad 1. This is all the same reason you do not put a 350 in a Prius. The prius could not handle the power, with out completely modifying the iPad 1 er.. i mean Prius.

Aug 12, 2012 2:12 AM in response to Tezootby A_Very_Annoyed_Customer,Apple are a great company and all, but seriously, even if they could make an iOS 6 specially for iPad 1, then they wouldnt lose at least 100 customers.
Apple keep ahead of Samsung and hp and the like, but iOS 6 for iPhone 3GS and not iPad 1 is really going to drag them behind It should be for all iOS products!
If you're with me, like this comment =)

Aug 12, 2012 7:33 AM in response to budazzby Kieron6241,NEWSFLASH IDIOT, NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD NEW IPADS JUST BECAUSE APPLE BROUGHT THEM OUT!
Not nice being shouted at us it? My wife bought me an iPad because it's what she could A) afford and B) available at the time. My original point stands, when iOS 6 comes along, I hope Apple take people like me into account where their own apps are concerned.

Aug 12, 2012 11:44 AM in response to Kieron6241by Dreeze,if you're truly that set on being able to experience iOS 6, nobody is stopping you from selling your first gen iPad on Craigslist, using that money toward the new iPad third gen. with all of your accessories and stuff that are made specifically for the original iPad you can easily make around $300+ depending on your model (if you don't let people talk you down from your price). worth a shot maybe?

Aug 19, 2012 10:33 PM in response to motox33by user646,Apple has been making great computer only to sell fraction of PC. Their system was incredibly good and useful and yet, no one used it. So, they lost their ground. Now, they are doing same **** again and they lost whole lot of market share to android. So stupid. I think I am going back to netbook. I heard that there are cheap and good netbooks. If you read the reviews in Amazon.com, you can find something less than 350 and it runs fast. Someone bought it for 250 during president day sales and he said that the speed was almost as fast as laptop. I like ipad, but not everything is compatible, and laptop that they sell is too expensive. I might get ipad mini but nothing more. I can't believe that they are not giving update for ipad 1. But I believe that the company has been changed A LOT. They NEVER EVER change anything since they come out first. They never change anything and they just give customers attitudes like if you don't like this ****, don't buy it, huh. THeir attitude hasn't been changed but they have changed A LOT compare to the attitudes that they display before... haha.. But, I am really tired. I am retiring all those things that giving me such attitudes. I don't need this ****.

Aug 21, 2012 5:37 AM in response to Wolverine904by xtremecarbon,Then just stick with 5.1.1. Usually the OS requirements are for updates/new purchase of sed app. If iWork ever needs to require iOS 6, I'll try using/no update on my iPhone 4.

Aug 23, 2012 12:32 PM in response to motox33by Phoinix,I really hope Apple will change this before the launch of iOS 6
If it can run on 3GS it can run on iPad 1. I don't think that closing the door to a few million customers that still have the device is a good move, especially with 'Surface' coming...

If you don't change the OS and don't update the apps, why would they "go all glitchy"? It's not as if software wears out.

Sep 3, 2012 2:46 PM in response to Dreezeby Jack Flash UK,Ditching an iPad 1, which generally does all I need, seems extreme when all I'm interested in from IOS6 is the abilty to properly stream from iTunes Match!
Besides, I really need to consider whether the upgrade to iPad 3 will give me value in the 2 years 'til IOS8 makes it redundant!
