Aperture 3.3 for Lion, but... how to install 3.2.4 for Snow Leopard?

This is what the link to the Online Aperture TrialVersion says: "The trial version of Aperture is no longer available."

I explained the situation which they understood, and they e-mailed me a serial number so I could register the downloadable trial version.

So where did Apple support tell you to download the Trial? 😕

I was able to apply the 3.2.4 update (which I downloaded before and wouldn't work with the App Store version of Aperture) immediately after installing 3.1.

All this was so helpful - thanks all. I had purchased aperture and wanted to move it across to my new Macbook. I couldn't access it in the app store inspite of using same allpe ID that purchased Aperture. So delighted to have it finally!! thanks all

Hi, Just read through this thread, and called Apple Care and was transferred to Aperture care. I had a crash today while editing with the brushes. The support staff was not aware that the downloaded 3.2.4 will not install on a machine with the appstore version of Aperture.

Because I'd read through the posts here, I was able to speed up my request and now have an email with the s/n for the trial and the downloaded update. Hoping no more problems installing and getting back to editing. Thank you so much for the very helpful info here. Deb

I have just contacted Apple support UK to request a serial number and payment method for Aperture 3.2.4 to use with Snow Leopard [I want to upgrade from Aperture 2], to be told that it can only be purchased from the App store as version 3.4.3 and that serial numbers no longer exist.

Try to find a boxed retail version from Amazon or eBay. That will give you an Aperture 3 serial number. Then update to Aperture 3.2.4 from the support page.

I shouldn't have to buy a dodgy used copy on eBay for twice the price it is new from Apple. Why does Apple have to make life so difficult for loyal long-term customers?

Why do you think this is unique to Apple? Many companies do not offer outdated versions of their software.

Yes and a mess that is spreading wider and wider within Apple. This is a running sore with the iWork apps and virtually all the Apple core apps that Apple persuaded us all to buy. There are now many people caught up in Apple's Kafakesque twists and turns of hardware and software incompatibility and accessability.

Apple makes upgrading impossible then removes the only means of getting at what still might work, meanwhile adding bizarre sets of rules on when and how things were purchased and the method of installion. Having made a total mess of operating software on Macs, it then compounds that in the support downloads with an appauling "New! Improved!" UI that regularly loses links, if you can even find them, and deliberately removes old updaters still needed by users on older systems.

I thought it must be just me getting more and more fed up with Apple's stuff ups but I witnessed someone else the other day in an Apple Store lose it and watched as they got the Apple shuffle. The staff are getting a lot of practice at selling people on the supposed simplicity of OSX and then stonewalling, or removing any customers who challenge that fallacy. Evidence is dismissed as irrelevant.

But it is Apple that ties software so closely to System versions and Hardware that it creates the needless problems. For not very old hardware or software that otherwise still works.

On the other side it forbids older Systems, on newer hardware trapping users between closing walls.

Apple has previously been very good at continued support, once something I could use to counter arguments from Windows users. But Apple has now changed the game to the point its own staff, in my experience, can't figure out the internal contradictions.
