iTunes error -54/-57 after updating to Version10.6.3

Hi,

I hit Software Update on my MacBook a few hours ago, and among the updates was one for iTunes, updating it to V 10.6.3. So I hit "Update", and thought nothing of it.

In my iTunes, I had about 30 or so app updates to download, so, I figured, since I had some time, to download them in the background while getting on with work. Done it many times before, as i'm sure most of you have. However, every few seconds, I get bothered with the iTunes logo poppping up in the Dock, and an error message reading "The iTunes Library File Cannot Be Saved. An Unknown Error Occoured", and then in brackets either (-54) or (-57).

Does anybody have any idea what this is, and how to fix it? Besides hitting the "Do not disturb me again" button. I'm guessing it's a bug in the new version, wondering if anybody else had this problem?

Okay folks, lets roll up our sleeves & get to the bottom of this. The Apple Support Community can & will rise to the challenge! Then we can all do the upgrade and fuhgeddaboutit.

Can anyone out there verify that updating iTunes to version 10.6.3 using Software Update works?

If so, does it work under Lion? How about Snow Leopard?

Has anyone downloaded the stand-alone .dmg file and been able to successfully upgrade iTunes to v.10.6.3?

This last method has always been considered the "safest" method by long-time Mac aficionados (unlike myself).

Thanks in Advance 😉

OK - I went ahead and downloaded the stand-alone installer which seemed to install successfully. I was conservative in my approach since I know that when Software Update is interrupted by any type of network or connectivity glich, that that is, oftentimes, when there is an increased likelyhood of errors and/or problematic system or application performance.

First off, I previewed all off the 90 second samples of the new Grace Potter & The Nocturnals album. That sounded awesome - especially on the piano equalizer setting. The other settings worked fine as well; for example, the Latin setting gave the tracks a more subdued sound.

Then I watched a two minute preview of "The Grey" w/Liam Neeson. That was an absolutely stunning HD trailer.

Finally, I purchased an audiobook (which previous incarnations of iTunes would not let me do running under Snow Leopard). It downloaded fine and I'm listening to that as I type this. I'm pleased to now have that added functionality.

Therefore, iTunes Update v.10.6.3 seems flawless (so far). I'll be on the lookout for any problems & I'll post accordingly - if & when I find any.
