Iphone photo sort order post itunes update

After downloading the latest itunes update my photos are now sorting in a different order - previously alphabetical, as I wanted! This has happened before and then been resolved - any tips on sorting again? It's maddening!

Here is what I've found so far...

10.7 by itself does not fix the sort problem

I updated my ipad to ios6, deleted the 'iPod Photo Cache' folder and resynced - photos were sorted by name - just like we want.

My phone is still on ios5 (I'm getting the new iphone today, so didn't hassle with upgrading my 4), after synching the iphone and later the ipad, the photos on the ipad are back to some sort of date (date modified?) sorting.

I'm guessing once I get both my phone and ipad on ios6, do a clean sync on both, the sorting issue should be ok.

I just wish there was a way for the user to select a sort order - name/date/size/?? - I'm sure each has it's merits and would be nice to give the control to the user, but I'm not holding my breath on that one...

This may have already been said, so apologies for any repeated info... saw this thread on the 'more like this sidebar' for my own problem thread...

My experience indicates that it's iTunes to blame for this rather than iOS... Under 10.6.2 all my synced photos were ordered by name, now with 10.7 they're roughly by date but with occasional wrongly-placed ones...

I have spent 45 mins today with an Apple genius who tried a brand new iPhone running iOS5 and had the same not-quite-by-date sorting as mine running iOS6...

Really annoying that i can't go back to iTunes 10.6.2 now that i have iOS6... :/

I've also discovered that even if you delete the cache and reimport your photos to your iDevice there is still random pictures out of order while the majority of the pictures are now in order.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I've read that the problem is actually with the recent iTunes update and not really with iOS.

I've also noticed that VIDEOs added to the Video app on your iDevice are now also out of order, while old content is in order. How can I successfully reorder all my video files now?

It's a real shame that Apple do not admit any of these problems. Even after a major iOS update there are till significant problems.

I too am having this problem.

iTunes 10.7(21)

Mac OSX 10.6.8

iPhone 4

iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

I've renamed my files and that didnt not solve it.

I've checked and unchecked the option to sync photos.

I've moved the photos to a new location assuming the folder they were in was cached some how.

I've modified both the creation and modified dates.

Still nothing changes the organization of the images on my iphone, which is still sorting the images by their old creation dates.

I would REALLY love for this to be addressed by Apple. As a photographer who carries a small portfolio collection on my iphone i need to have images organized how I want them.

Hi.

HOW to get the photo order sorted out

I have iphone4s ver 6.0.1 i'm using itunes 11.0.1.12 windows pro 7

I have found that the order the photoes are in on my phone is:

Date taken >> then Date modified.

Also, here is the trick , Any photo that does not have a 'date taken' will be placed at the end of the photoes on the iphone in 'date modified' order.

So if I sort my photo folder on my computer by 'date taken' and then move down the list to the first photo with a 'date taken', this photo should be the oldest photo with a date in the 'data taken' field. When I compare this to my iphone4s , they are identical in order 100%!!.

If i continue down the list on the iphone, I will eventually get to those photoes that don't have a date in the 'date taken' field. If i compare these to my computer folder they are also identical 100%!!

To get my iphone synced to my folder i followed some instruction supplied earlier

1. un-sync your photos in itunes

2. the folder should be deleted of your Iphone

3. goto to the folder where you photoes are on your computer

4. delete the itunes cache folder.

At this point you should have no photos on your iphone (except your camera roll, don't touch this)

5 re-sync your photos in itune

6. all your photos in the folder will be copies to the iphone,

remember any photo that does not have a 'date taken' will be at the bottom in order.

I have about 1900 photos in my family photo folder, About 150 do not have a 'date taken' all the rest do

when i review these photos there are in the exact order as my photo folder.

To change the 'date taken' in windows exploer , I right click on the photo , then goto properties, then click on details, then goto the 'date taken' field and change it. you will then need to do steps 1-6 again

hope this helps

p.s I'm still testing the steps 1-6 to see if this can be made simpler, they work for now

Finally! An answer!

I've tried many of the suggestions like downloading the Attribute Changer software, which may come in handy another time, but was no use with my photo-ordering problem.

But, moving the photo cache out of my folder and then re-syncing has done the trick. I notice it's created a new photo cache. I wonder if our problems are due to too many updates/additions to the folder that the cache becomes corrupted...? I'll leave that question for those cleverer than me!!!

I'm using Windows XP if that has anything to do with anything.

This reply is for Win users!

I had the exact same problem, although not on an iPad, but on my iPhone 5. After 1 month of seeking, I finally figured out that a small shareware software does perfectly what I needed, without purchasing it. It is called CopyTrans Photo, you can download it from this site: http://www.copytrans.net/copytransphoto.php

When you open it, pick the CopyTransPhoto software in the small upcoming window, the others are not needed. The software immidiately recognizes your connected device, and with a single drag-n-drop you can re-arrange your photos in your folders. Click on the apply button. Worked perfectly for me!

Cheers

My previous euphoria was soon quashed when I added new photos to my "refreshed" folder and the problem continued!!

In the end the only sustainable solution was to have those photos I particularly wanted in a set order ie either by date or alphabetically, I have moved into a separate photo-organising app. In the end after some research and reading lots of reviews, I plumped for PhotoManager Pro https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/photo-manager-pro/id393858562?mt=8

I have been very happy with it, although the draw-back is that you have to deliberately sync additional photos to the app each time you sync, it's not done automatically when I sync my phone.... at least I haven't found a way to get it to do that yet!

It is frustrating that Apple software can be so enlightened and intuitive on so many occasions and be down right thick on others! Sigh!

I'm not sure what my solution particularly does when you add new photos to the folder, and sync it with iTunes. I haven't tried to do this so far. It might mix it up again...

You have your photos in the order you wanted in the PhotoManager Pro App, but not the way you want in the original iPhone Photos app? Or how does this look like?

It's a shame that you can't sort your album images as the way you want on a 700 handy!!

In the folder that you create in PM+ theres a button you can click which gives you an option to sort any photos in that folder by Date, Type, Name, Your own method, by file size or star rating! But I generally just have them by Name as it suits my needs! Any new photos are automatically arranged as per the settings when you add them.
