My MacBook screen went black and now the screen won't turn on

I hear the initial "turning on" sound, buy after that there is nothing.

What is wrong and how can I fix it?

This has just happened to my computer, one minute i was using it, one minute the screen went black. I thought i just needed to reboot it so i held down the power button to shut it down and then restarted it. I heard the same start up sound however i saw nothing on the screen. But after looking a bit closer i realised that the stuff on the screen WAS there but so so so faint. I also found that when i pushed f1 (lower brightness) all the way down and then back up again with f2 my screen would come up as normal for a split second. When i kept doing this (back and forth on the brightness) it eventually stayed bright in short time periods so i eventually could navigate my way to the system preferences and this is what I changed:

> Apple button (top left corner)

> System preferences

> Hardware > Energy Saver

> Untick everything under the "Power Adapter tab"

> Put the Computer sleep and Display sleep to "Never" by moving the time slider to the right

> Do the same thing for the "Battery" tab

This has worked for me so far so I just wanted to let other people know that are having the same problem. Before I did this i was contemplating taking it to the Apple store like everyone else and paying 200 quid to get it fixed. Glad I played around with it first though and I hope this means other people will be able to fix their ones too!

I found a video on youtube that showed this problem (which I also have). they removed the lcd screen bezel and messed with the inverter wires and then could not reproduce the problem. my problem just fixed itself after shutting the screen a few times, then it finally stayed on so I'm leaving the screen opened to the same spot so I can get work done. I ordered a monitor cable for an external monitor in case it comes back and I have to rewatch that video to get to those wires and reseat the connectors and adjust the wires. I was able to use lights shined onto the screen to manage just a bit when the screen was dark. the computer works, the back light is just not working. hope this helps.
