How do you middle-click on a trackpad?

I used to use a background app called "MiddleClick" with success on a trackpad and a Magic Mouse (using a three-fingered click). But that seems to be broken in 10.8 Mountain Lion. Any new ideas?

OK, Magic Prefs seems to be working form me in 10.8 with MacBook Pro trackpad and Magic Mouse.

I'm using MagicPrefs (www.magicprefs.com) that is able to middle-click on my magic mouse as well as the trackpad. I'm made a three-finger click act as the middle mouse button.

ok i figured it out - there is a drop down that has the option to simulate middle click

This approach worked fine for me (command-shift-click).

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but control-option-command click works for me in Yosemite (10.10.1). It's extremely cumbersome, but if you need it, it's there.

There is no need to install any third party software, just press "control" key + single click (one finger) on track pad, your middle click is ready for you.🙂

1. Shift + Command + two finger click

2. Command + two finger force click

Work for me. El Capitan 10.11.1.

To update this old post, as of OS version 10, the Command-2 finger click does the trick. Command-Click does not work.
