Macbook Pro Retina heat issues?

For any of you that have the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display, are you guys feeling excessive heat along the keyboard and on the aluminum directly under the screen? Just wondering, because I am. Let me know. Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), 15" Retina Display Macbook Pro

Let me pile on. I souped up version with 16g etc in December and have been noticing the heat issue and I am glad I ran into this thread. I even ordered this week an SF-19 cooling pad with twin fans and AC power to cool down this microwave.

I did run into something that looks very promising since last night. Ran the Activity Monitor and noticed multiple threads of Chrome Helper taking 10 to 20% of the cpu. I killed these processes and I am now un the low 30's C for heat when I was in the 90's. I am going to give Chrome a rest for a while and see if this maybe a contributor.

Just my own experience so take it for what is worth

when Chrome was running.

All day today. This is just a sample but all data points were consistently low.

The surface heat of the keyboard is extremely too high on my MB Retina. Bought it 3/2013 and it's always been hot. Today I became fed up with it and took it's surface temperature and it's sitting at 130+ F on the keyboard while just watching a YouTube video. Really hoping that Apple Care can fix the situation as the support staff over the phone was utter garbage. Just to put it into perspective... 130F is almost enough to fully cook ham and that temperature is under my fingers. I'm still trying to justify to myself why I spent $2700 total after student discount on this machine and it's becoming harder each day. Hopefully they don't try to change out the hardware with hardware that is unequal in performance like they have been known to do. (*Sigh*) so much frustration with Apple right now.

I have a 2012 15 inch rMBP 8gb 2.7 i& + NVidea, I've had heat issues since purchase and thought it was just me. SMC Fan Control & iStat show fan speeds upto 5800rpm and a temp of upto 105C, I've previously had a screen swap(image retention), fan swap and also a replacement logic board, I've recently cloned my HD and ran tests on another retina machine in a local store and the readings were nowhere near as high, 20C lower and fan speeds below 3000 when performing the exact same test routine (lightroom photo export). Booked into Genius for this Friday, I'll post back my findings.

Ok. I got my new MBP a few days ago and I was facing the same problem of excessive heat. I just want to update here that I read somewhere in the post about CHROME related problems. It turned out that since I Quit Chrome, the heat went down a lot. I will be installing the iStat as as well, just to keep an eye. By the way, is there any other iStat equivallent software out there (free).

After another trip to the Genius bar they couldn't see anything to be concerned about, I sold the machine on and bought the same machine but a late 2013 version, this one runs just fine, fan speed still hits 6000 rpm when doing taxing work but the temps top out at 65C which is a lot better. I've since heard that due to legal action Apple will exchange your machine if they overheat.

My macbook pro retina 13" (late 2013) has only ever reached 103 degrees C. That was from running a minecraft mod pack that was crazy! I got to 100 degrees on google maps today, but it was rendering quite a lot. when using handbrake to convert blu-rays its about 90+ degrees celsuis constantly, for about 8 hours lol. I do use Minecraft often and find that the macbook does manage its fan pretty well. Rarely ever maxes the rpm of fan, and at 103 degrees the fan was maxed but was still had the temperature under control. If you're into gaming but want to use it on your lap i suggest just placing a thin, hardcover book or album between you and the computer. this way your body isn't acting like a big insulator and you're not blocking the side vents. Also it's more comfortable than having hot air blowing on your legs 🙂 overall they're designed to run these temperatures. Right now mines 46 degrees C. Apps open: Safari, powerpoint, Wine, stickies, iTunes, iMessage. also I have an external monitor plugged in via HDMI. fan speed 1300 rpm (its basically idle speed).
