LOL well im glad everyone is getting their problem fixed because mine still doesnt work. ive uninstalled quicktime, repaired quicktime, absolutely nothing.. it takes an hour for itunes to even open and then when it opens, it freezes when i try to do something! so i just gave up and i run it from my 32 bit windows 7. but im sure when Windows 8 comes out next year, there will be a lot of problems just like this. apple needs to get their programmers up to par.

I have had this problem with Windows 7 and iTunes updates for some time. Each time it takes hours to solve but with the over the air upgrade to IOS6 on my iPhone and iPad, I was determined to solve and remember what I did, So here it is:

I hope this helps you and any other users.

This is the same thing that apple says to do. I don't know why the person writing this says they couldn't find it anywhere. You can find these steps on apple practically everywhere. I gave up trying to get iTunes to run on my 64bit windows 7. It runs perfectly fine on my 32bit windows 7 computer and I'm just leaving it like that. But seriously, I don't know how they could release something that won't run on certain PC's. The majority of the world uses windows, not iOS, but I'm not surprised.

Yeah - I just had my iPhone and iPad syncing on 32 bit XP laptop. It was the only thing that I used that machine for. But I got fed up with not using my new Windows 7 64 bit desktop. Once the 5 or so msi's were separated out of iTunes64Setup.exe, installing AMDS first seemed the logical thing to do. And it worked. It's just important to get all Apple stuff of the 64 bit machine, including the registry. Seems like you are sorted. That's the main thing.

Hi, I had the same issue and found the issue to be with Windows. I posted a response on the following thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4399326

In this thread there is a link to a Microsoft communities website which explains it all. Installing and uninstalling different Apple software had no affect on my machine which is Windows 7 64 bit.

I would just try running "sfc /scannow" as an administrator first and if that fails, go through the different boot sequences.

Since running the "sfc /scannow" its's like I have a new machine. It found errors whilst checking so this had to be the issues.

Good luck.

Uninstalling Quicktime did it for me. The problem started when the auto update clocked up an error message and terminated the update.

I haven't tried reinstalling Quicktime yet - I'm not even quite sure what will not work without it!!! I'll leave it til get a problem.

Thanks to everyone - as a result of this thread, I only suffered about 4 days of problems. Now everything works fine that the updating of iPads/iPhone works automatically as it always has til now.
