My speaker on my iPhone 4s stopped working. I can't hear my phone ringing, music, apps or use the speaker when having a call. I can still make and take calls when I see them calling but can't hear the phone ring.

This afternoon my speaker on my phone stopped working. I can not hear it ringing when someone call, but if I see someone calling and I answer the call they can hear me and I can hear them fine. I also can't not put the caller on speaker at all , I also can't hear my music or gaming apps. When I turn my phone on or off it does not make a sound as well. I have turned the phone off and turned it off by pressing the top button and home button at the same time and that did not work. I checked the volume and the mute button and the volume is up all the way. I don't know what else to do can you please help me?

I have the iPhone 5 and this just happened to me yesterday. I was in the middle of a conversation on speaker phone and it suddenly went out. I didn't notice till later in the day that my ringer was not working either. I have tried everything in that all the posts have suggested and still nothing. I love my iPhone but this is very disappointing to have a brand new phone (three weeks old) and then it just stops working. I will be taking it back to Apple today for a replacement.

Well this is a fairly easy one . In these cases you need to do the following :

1. Check if the ringer/sideswitch is not set to mute

2. HW reset the device ( hold and press home button for about 15 seconds it will restart itself)

3. Turn wifi and buetooth off

4. backup the device and restore the device as new device :

How to setup as new device:

---> if issue i not solved , it means the speaker is defect and you need to send it to repair or exchange it at an apple store .

* after each step check again if speaker is working or not .

P.S.: Please don't blow into the headphone jack , only do so if the earphone icon appears although you have no earphones plugged in . And even then be carefull not to spit into it by mistake ( happens often ) , because you will trigger the liquid damage indicator .

Hope this will help you .

I have the same problem with my iphone 4s. Happened while I was on the speaker for a phone call. My iphone is always plugged into a case that charges it so blowing into the dock area seems pointless, although I did try it. Nothing. Tried restarting it. Nothing. So far nothing is working, if I can't get it working will apple or ATT be the best place to go to get it fixed? I've had mine a few months, I don't know how long the warranty is good for.

Hi, I had the exact same problems on my 4S for about a month. I tried all of the previous rememdies without success. It appears if the contacts of the docking port are dirty/corroded this will prevent you speakers from working. Who would have thought of that!!

I finially got mine to work by cleaning the contacts on the docking port with a tootpick, a small piece of paper towel and a drop of window cleaner. I used the following method:

Firstly turn off your phone.

Take the toothpick and gently clean away all foriegn bodies and corrosion products from in and around the contacts, blowing hard into the dock port to remove all loose particals.

Take a small piece of paper towel and dampened it with window cleaner. Using the tooth pick to push the towel into the port, wiping out the contacts and port. Do this a couple of times using a clean piece of towel each time.

Finally blow hard into the port and visual check for any lint, towel etc remaining around the contacts.

Turn on your phone and check the function by using the volume buttons on the side. If you get the ringer volume appear with the level displayed your speaker should now be functioning correctly.

I hope this is helpful and this fixes your phone too!

Same problem here with my iPhone 4S. The speaker suddenly stopped working in the middle of a phone call for no apparent reason. The phone was not plugged in at the time, so there was no cable tugging on the docking port.

It seems these speaker issues all point to the docking port, but my repeated attempts to clean/clear the port did not fix it. I tried all the suggested fixes on this thread - no luck.

Mine turned out to be a hardware problem. The docking port and also the speaker assembly needed to be replaced. It took about an hour at a local iPhone repair shop (not the Apple store). It was not the easiest of tasks - the technician struggled for quite a while before he got it all working correctly. Cost was $99 for parts and labor.

There was no apparent reason for the hardware failure. My iPhone has a rugged protective case. It has never been dropped or jail-broken or subjected to moisture/liquid.

Bummer.

This problem also happened to me yesterday. In the middle of a call on speaker phone and then it suddenly stopped working. Now I have absolutely no sound through my built in speakers. I then got a prompt on my iPhone 5 for an upgrade to my iPhone for the speaker phone. Downloaded upgraded but still nothing? What is going in Apple? It seems many persons experienced this same issue yesterday!

My speaker on my iPhone 4s stopped working. I can't hear my phone ringing, music, apps or use the speaker when having a call. I can still make and take calls when I see them calling but can't hear the phone ring.
