MBP Retina: yellow screen/hard freeze when using WebGL content

Has anyone else with a new MacBook Pro with Retina display notice a slight uneven yellow tint to their screen? On my screen it appears starting about midway down the screen and is more noticable on the left hand side. It is very faint, but enough to make me notice it when scrolling through webpages and the such. I am wondering if maybe this is the same glue drying issue with the iPhones that just came off the production line?

Also, when trying to run WebGL content in Safari (haven't tried it in a different browser yet), my MBP completely hard freezes and requires a power cycle to get it running again.

Anyone else having the same problem(s)?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Go and exchange that MacBook - it is not glue. If it would be the glue you would see only yellow spots.

Apple uses two manufactors in China - one that seems to get it right with the amazing bright and great whites and one where you have a yellow tint or yellowish parts on the screen.

Apple is way to expensive to accept this issue. In addition the energy and time you put into that to solve it with your existing hardware is not worth the trouble.

Take it back to the store right now or call Apple and demand a replacement. This seems like a motherboard issue or a problem with the way Intel's GPU and nVidia's drivers might be causing major problems. A computer of this expense and extolled brilliance should not do this. Apple Customer Care will not fail you but do it now so that you can demand a replacement rather than wait months for it to be fixed.

Do not wait: go to your Apple store and demand a replacement.

Took the bad bear to my Apple Store this morning... Couldn't get the Genius to see the yellow area on my screen. I'll admit that it's very faint, but after a minute of really looking at it and using it, it becomes easier to notice where the whites start to look less white. He said it didn't matter today because he doesn't have the repair parts and a faulty screen doesn't warrant a complete replacement.

After explaining WebGL to the Genius and how to enable it in Safari, we were able to reproduce the hard freeze issue on all of their demo MBPs with Retina displays, but not on any of the other machines. My guess is WebGL has a compatibility issue with the new Nvidia graphics chip, as it seems to happen once the machine tries to switch from integrated to discrete graphics.

I don't really know where to go from here, if I couldn't get a Genius to see the screen discoloration in person I don't think someone over the phone will believe me either.

Called Apple Care this morning, the advisor told me there was nothing he could do because he can't see the laptop. He then recommended I go to a different Apple Store and see what they can do...

Please, please, please phone up Apple and ask for an RMA and send the sucker back. If it's not returning..it actually upsets me...you must return this computer if you are not happy. You'd never accept this from DELL or HP and Apple has made this computer to be a joy to use...not something that makes you feel like a fool for owning.

SEND IT back or demand they replace it. Do it right now! If not you cannot blame Apple as they have the best customer support there is and it does not matter to them. And insist they do not charge you a restocking fee!

Good luck.

I bought mine at a local Apple store and when I got home after about an hour of setting up and use I noticed that some webpages had this slight dirtiness to the left mid to bottom tint. I'm debating going back to the Apple store for a genius bar visit but I'm afraid they will snuff it off as fine. It's not quit as yellow after leaving the montior on all night but it's 100% dimmer, and it sticks out now like a sore thumb.

Here is an image of it with a 50% grey, you can see the discoloration on the left starting from midway and going down to the bottom of the display. When I was writing this post the bottom of the browser almost looks like Apple put a Horizontal gradient from left to right across the background of the site. So **** annoying... I will probably just return it the only issue is I paid cash (10 day wait), though I wonder if they'd let me get a gift card so I an just order from the online store (less hassle with dealing with people in person incase there is same issue with screen on a new one).

They don't charge for restocking fee. If it's in 14-day return policy is full refund without question. You can return for refund a very fine and healthy device just because you don't like a color!

If it's over 14-day I know they replace it and swap it right away if they have in stock otherwise they order you a new one.

If it is out of 14 days and you want refund, I don't know what's gonna happen cause they say they're not gonna do it. It's not working we give you a new one but they don't give you the money back.

Good luck and as he said return it for a new one. You deserve to be satisfied with your device. And believe me Apple wants that too. That's why they makes it easy for you.

Good luck

I thought it's just me, while working on Numbers, I had the same issue when displaying two same style table.

I suggest everyone does this, try switch the two same colour table (with grey colour). As you can see, the two table grey colour is differnet when the positions were switched.

I thought my eyesight needs to be check up at first, then I realised it's my Retina that needs a check up.

Return it and either swap it out or just get your money back. I spent a lot of time with a Retina and it frankly was not impressive BUT it did not have this yellow cast on it. There are always a problems like this when you have the screen fused to the lid. It reminds me of the kind of thing that happened to the iPhone except it wore off, this has not and you should not accept any BS and with Apple despite my criticism of the Retina being only baseline professional...they are great about accepting returns. Do it tomorrow...do it soon..they will understand but swap it or get your money back.

You're not dealing with HP or DELL.

Looks dreadful and like somone else said it's like the problems some iPad are facing. As I mentioned this was bound to happen when the fused the screen to the lid. I know how exctiting it is to get new hardware but it really costs too much to look like this. Better you return it and get your money back and you wait for Apple to get their act together. Apple customer care/Genius Bar will not give you a hard time. Take it in...
