VW Iphone 4s bluetooth connection drop problem, is there a solution or do apple not care

Many people are finding their Iphone 4S drops connection with their VW (Passat etc) integrated bluetooth hands free system after working fine for 5, 10, 20 minutes. The only way to reconnect is to switch the car off or turn the Iphone bluetooth off & back on.

This is a dangerous fault and it appears that both Apple & VW have no solution (or are ignoring as they have already sold you a phone & a car).

Hi My Iphone worked 100% on V5.0 my issues started with 5.1 and have continued. Now with 6.0 it is no better. The phone works for about 10 seconds, then drops the Bluetooth connection for upto 20 seconds, depending on the device. My car, an Audi, takes the longest, my Jawbone about a 2 second gap.

The lose of connection does not ussualy repeat when I connect to a device, but is has once our twice is a single session. Nor does it happen every time I connect to a device, but it does the majority of the time.

To try and help, I only have voice turned on in the bluetooth settings on my iPhone, no "Sync Contacts" or other settings.

I have not purchased a new iPhone because of this single, very annoying, issue.

It is clearly a problem Apple, please fix it.

Pete

I solved above described problems with Iphone4s and first generation RNS315 (e.g. seat Mediasystem 2.1) by changing the RNS315 to a brandnew modell.

you cannot fix it by upgrading the rns315-firmware. the second generation RNS315 (e.g. seat mediasystem 2.2) has new BT-hardware built-in and with this HW the Iphone-4s works fine. no missing calls anymore!

for your information:

in our company we all use Ipone-4s but only the guys who drive a seat-alhambra series 2011 (first ge. RNS315) company-car have problems, the others who have the 2012-versions (second ge. RNS315) do not have any troubles with missing calls.

Yes I think you have to go for regular service and they will just update software for Rcd or Rns. Then will be working will . I have passat cc 2011 and had the same problem with 4s but now I know that Bluetooth changed to be faster in all smartphones .now I'm using even I I phone 5 and its good working with my car .

Hi guys. Haven't seen this threat and was trying to deal with my problem in a general bluetooth problems threat.

iPhone 4s os 6.1.2 + Volkswagen Universal Bluetooth.

The problem that I'm experiencing is that, apparently, I'm correctly connected to my car hands free system (network, signal level, battery level correctly shown in my dashboard) but sometimes, when I receive a call I can't answer from the hands free. From that point on (after missing the call) if I try to make an outbound call I get a Bluetooth connection error and get disconnected. The only way to connect again is switching off Bluetooth and on again.

As said, this happens sometimes but not always, so troubleshooting this one is almost impossible. It seems to me that the connection error is always produced by an incoming call since I have never found the error when dialling an outbound call (except in the case said above).

I have re-paired both devices after every software update, reset network settings, restore iPhone and none has solved this.

Very difficult to me to say since when I’m experiencing this. Until last November I had an iPhone 4 iOS 5 which worked flawlessly with the same Volkswagen unit and problem started when I changed to the 4s with iOS 6.

Mine is a 2011 car with bluetooth module 5K0 035 730B and have been said that 5K0 035 730G solves the problem (has nothing to do with the RNS-510, etc) although I think Apple has to do something to restore compatibility. Updating you car is not that simple as updating iPhone OS.

For those who daily spend some time in their cars this may be the cause of a fine or something even worse.

I have the same frustration / problem with my iphone 4s & VW Passat 2011 & now understand why there is an issue. iphone 4 & previous iphones use bluetooth 2.1 technology, later iphones 4s & 5 use bluetooth 4.

Changing the VW bluetooth module to a more recent version that supports bluetooth 4 should solve the problem, as the iphone 4s was not out when 2011 VWs were designed so they are only compatible with bluetooth 2.1 technology, 2012 VWs do not suffer with the same problem.

I'm sure I have read reports of this solving the problem but have not tried it as my car belongs to the company. Hopefully someboby will read this & confirm it as a solution.

It's actually a bit more complicated than that. The BT 4 standard is compatible with BT 2.1 if the BT 2.1 drivers being used have properly followed the BT 2.1 standard. Unfortunately, some BT 2.1 drivers didn't completely adhere to the standard and, hence, are not fully compatible with BT 4. Other, properly written, BT 2.1 implementations have had no problems with the iOS 6 BT 4 on iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.
