Every time I place my iPad in its dock, I'm asked if I want to update the carrier settings. Anyone else have this? Anyone know why, or how to make it stop?

Same problem here, really annoying. Have iPad 1 (WiFi + 3G) and O2 in the UK. Problem started a couple weeks ago for me. There are a few discussions open on this topic (including the one I started last week), but none has the answer (some are way older). For one user, it disappeared by itself after a while...

@nmarshall002: Please let us know how it goes with your restore...

Thank You!!!

Well. Having had this problem for a couple of weeks, I, too, am one of those for whom it's simply stopped happening.

No reason, no change to what I've been doing, no attempt to re-install anything - just stopped.

The only consistent thing I've seen in this exchange is that the carrier is O2, but not everyone has said, so can't be sure.

Hope this happens to everyone.

I have to just hope it all corrects itself as my attempt to pin down the issue gave some new information but not a lot of hope!

I tried to eliminate as many of the potential causes as possible, so I:

- Set up a new portable computer with a clean install of iTunes, just in case my desktop computer setup was a part of the problem. It even had a different OS (Windows Vista rather than the WIn7 on my desktop).

- Removed the SIM and did a full recovery reinstallation (hold down Home key while plugging in USB cable until the relevant prompt appears...)

- Got to a clean image on the iPad and then set it up as a "new iPad", so there was no chance of anything in a previous backup affecting it. Set it up so the minimum happened (no sync of photos, music, apps, etc)

- Set up a single podcast just so something would sync and it did so successfully.

- So far there had been no prompts for any carrier updates.

- Disconnected the iPad and inserted the SIM

- Checked the carrier settings version (it was O2 12.0)

- Connected the iPad to the computer again and got the "carrier update" prompt.

- As before it said it had updated successfully, but it had not, as the message reappeared on each subsequent sync.

So it isn't:

- problems with iTunes

- interfering apps

- a poor PC setup, or anything obvious.

The only thing left is the iPad itself, or the SIM, so it's back to the Apple Store in a day or to with the new evidence to see what they have to say....

Don't you just love these time-saving devices!

Since I've restored my system back to where it was, after all the experimentation described elsewhere, I've consistently cancelled the prompt to update the settings and my iPad ((third generation, 64GB) is still at version "O2 12.0", whereas before I was continuing getting the message when the system said it had been updated to "O2 12.1", so something in that update isn't working properly.

However, O2 must have many users and I can't believe that it's affected all of them, as there's been so little activity on these forums, so I'm assuming it's the update combined with some other issue that is causing the problem. As I still have the problem even after I've made sure I'm running nothing but the bare operating system I'm coming to the view that the "something else" must be some issue with the hardware - either the iPad itself, or the SIM, but as I don't know where the update would be stored I'm going to have to go back to Apple again to ask them. Hopefully someone will know...

The same is happening to me I took my Ipad which is the same as yours into my apple store yesterday it did puzzle them they suggested I get a new sim which I did and went straight to the store and the same thing happened so to their credit they gave me a new ipad so home I came happy as can be and you can guess after setting up my new ipad I get the same message when connecting to Itunes I am on o2 so looks like o2 is the problem or apple need to look into this or has anyone managed to solve this

Just so you know, it can't be O2, as I have an iPad with the so-called 4G capability and WiFi but do not have any phone contract with it at all and only use it tethered (occasionally) to my iPhone (which is Vodafone).

I have been getting these messages every time as well in the past few weeks when I sync my iPad. Very annoying, but as someone said, it's not worth a lot of time and effort to solve. Nevertheless, if someone does, thank you!
