Hi everybody,
I got this iMac from a deceased uncle and so far I managed to crack the password, add additional RAM and install Snow Leopard (I am used to working with MS Windows so this is all quite new for me)
After going through the info on the net (and this conversation on the topic) I was wondering:
- can I switch to Lion and is it worthwhile to do so (feature, speed, stability wise)?
- can I switch to Mountain Lion and is it worthwhile to do so (idem)
Below (all the way down) the specs of my iMac which is classified as a 20-INCH, LATE 2006.
According to the system requirements I should be able to upgrade to Lion, although I wonder if there might be an issue with the 64 bit capability of my machine. Although the Dual 2 Core is a 64 bit architecture, according to the article below the 64bit capability is blocked in early machines.

Still according to Apple's system requirement, I cannot upgrade to ML.
With a tool I found out that
- the processor is technically capable of running a 64bit kernel
- the kernel however is set to boot in 32bit mode
- the EFI has a 32bit architecture
I was wondering if I could force the kernel to start up in 64bit mode should this be the single key thing to do in order to enable my iMac run ML and would that be a wise thing to do.
Thanks for your help.
