MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

What should I do now? after 1 week talk and now I can finally have the screen to be replaced but the store asked to drop the laptop for up to 5 days, no alternatives, but I need it everyday for project.

I think you need to have this serviced, simply putting off the 5 day repair process is just making you more frustrated. Like any laptop with a problem you are severely inconvienced but it happens. Maybe the local manager can help expidite your repair?

If they are asking you to leave yoru computer for up to 5 days, that probably means they don't have the screen in stock, so you should just have them call you when they get the screen in stock and then setup an appointment for the service. If you setup a morning appointment, there is a good chance they can get it back to you the same day since the actual screen swap probably only takes 30 minutes (maybe more if it is their first time doing it, which it probably is for the rMBP).

I just received my rMBP 08/27/2012 from MacMall. It was the 2.3GHz version with 16MB RAM. I ran the retention test app provided in an earlier message. The display is the LP154WT1-SJA1, DCN2293205KDMJ0AD

I ran the test for 15 minutes and saw no image retention.

Are there people that have the rMBP with 10.8 pre-installed with the issue? Just wondering if it will take a while for it to appear or if at some point there will be rMBP shipped with good displays.

For most people it appears that it takes a few days to a few weeks for the problem to progress to the point where it's noticible. Some have reported that they saw the problem sooner than a few days but most everyone that says they have the problem seems to have noticed it by the time 3-4 weeks have passed.

A few owners of computers with LG panels have reported that they have not experienced the problem even after several weeks. However, I have looked at all the demo units at several stores now and every single one that I have seen that has an LG panel has the problem and every single one that I have seen that has the Samsung panel does not. So I'm pretty comfortable saying that all LG panels have the problem to some degree or another, but it may not be noticible to some owners.

Realistic is that we spent 2200+ for this laptop and it's screen is more pathetic than my 1650x1050, 6 year old dell display. That I let it set for 30+ minutes without any IR.

Stop being a fanboy, I love apple but they screwed up here. This laptop is great but hugely flawed.

Anyway, mine is setting at home but I won't be able to test it out until tomorrow, or maybe later due to this **** hurricane.

I'm not being a fanboy. 'Hugely flawed' is, I think, an overstatement; but this is just my opinion, obviously.

Considering that the retina display is the MAIN selling point of this laptop, its a huge mistake that in some cases makes the LCD very subpar to my 1650x1050 that is 6 years old. Hugely flawed is an under-statement.

Its like selling a cell phone and advertising it as one, except the phone doesn't connect well to cellular networks.

This is a huge screw up by Apple, and believe me, i am a big apple fan since the iPod and mainly since my iPhone 3G. I have owned the 3G,4, and will be buying the 5. I had an iPod nano, i have an iPad 2. and this is my first mac. I want this computer because it is super nice, but it better work well.

I am not going crazy over this issue, seeing as i won't be able to get home and look at mine until tomorrow.

In reality, many of us are buying this computer for work. And a cra ppy screen is not good.

Accepting something from apple that is subpar is stupid.

I can go get a 900 PC with a screen that works better (may not exactly look better) but it will work better

so for my 2337 dollars (2.6/16gb/256) + 2 adapters It BETTER be good, especially 3 months later

But there is going to be a production cutoff date when they are producing panels that are no longer exhibiting this issue. I think it would be safe to assume Apple has already addressed the issue with LG and it would take some time for all the previous stock to be used up. I am hoping Apple will eventually make an official statement about the issue and what will be done to rectify it. It could be they were waiting for manufacturing to catch up with demand before having some large scale replacement program. (and I am extremely picky about monitor quality)

We can al hope that's the case, but if you're wrong, then you get stuck with a crappy display with IR and possibly poor color represntation. Personally, after going through two bad LG screens, I returned the second one for a refund and am now impatiently waiting to see what happens. I'm just not willing to risk $3,500+ (2.6/16/512 + AC + Tax) because this has dragged on so long with only inconsistent responses from Apple ranging from "sure, we'l swap that for you" to "sorry, IR is normal on all LCD screens".

no, they told me they do have and not 1 but 2. I told my difficult and asked if I could line up then I would come back 5 days later or they could call me anytime when they are ready to work on my laptop, I'll be the store within 30 minutes. The answer was NO because they don't know when they will have time to replace the screen. It could be anytime during the 5 days.

I would love to believe that this is true and Apple has already addressed the issue but I think it takes much, much longer than you think to re-engineer a design and retool an assembly line.

I ordered a rMPB (2.3ghz processor, 16gb RAM, 256gb SSD) on August 23rd and ordered with 2-3 day shipping. after 4 days I called 1-800-MY-APPLE and asked why it hadn't come and after we found the order the woman said it wasnt coming until september 5th. Do you think maybe apple has realized the problem and is holding my order and many others to fix the screen problem before they send them out?
