MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I literally just got back from the apple store (UK) after showing my ***ked up lg screen. i was glad to hear that the guy there had already heard of the problem and also admitted it. A replacement was ordered (which i wanted anyways instead of getting a new machine and having to restore everything). Obviously he could make sure i get a sumsung, but he assured me that they would treat the problem if the new screen has a problem too, so i guess thats some sort of relief, and also quite frustrating.

On another note, i found a samsung display rmbp and was curious about the brightness and colour differences.

I found that there was no significant difference in brightness levels. however the samsung appeared to have slightly whiter...whites. thats the only difference i saw in 5-10 mins of using the samsung.

I also use the TestRetention app on the samsung -> not a millisecond of retention. and as expected, retention was present on 2 lg screens on display.

whatever happens, im going to send an email on 03/09 using all my email accounts 😉

Jon P D,

you have 138 pages of material to look at. Re-issuing the same posts over and over again, by the same people (including me), would banalize the thread as merely being a few disgruntled Apple fanboys repeating the same message.

I suggest you use Google with the search tool site:discussions.apple.com/... and look for images !

Peace out.

Believe me, the issue looks much worse in person. These pictures don't do it justice. Also, it seems to be getting worse as each day goes by. I used to need to do the checkerboard pattern (first picture) to see it, but now simple text (second picture) works just fine. Both of these images took only 5 minutes to create and lasted for at least that long on the screen afterward. It's totally unacceptable, especially for the graphics professionals that this product has been targeted towards.

i have 2.6/16/256 with a LG screen. The laptop isnt even a week old yet, but i have been using it a lot and running the checkerboard test

Today i ran a 50-60 minute test, and NO IR at all yet.

I hope LG got their $hit together

The brightness is waaay better than my old dell and i find it to be too bright at night (til i turn it down)

the white is as white as can be, blacks are okay

I am being offered a repair, no replacement even with Apple Care. Also the repair would take 2 weeks and there is NO way to expedite in any way. School just started and I sold my old macbook a week ago. Now I will have no computer for school or work for 2 weeks (possibly longer) to get a replacement screen. I am completely screwed for 2 weeks, I have no idea what I am going to do for school have to borrow a friends or something.

Anyone getting repairs how long did it take? Did they replace with a Samsung screen?

Running the retention app for 1 min, the image remains ghosted for 1 min and 30 seconds.

I have had my rMBP for two months and the problem seems to be getting worse. I feel like I am getting screwed royally.

I will never buy another Apple product again and will be telling everyone the same. Getting a Samsung direct and saving a ton of cash doing it.

I pay for Apple Care, does that help me at all in this situation -- NO -- does it get me express return or a replacement to use while I wait for my computer to repaired -- NO. My livelihood depends on this machine not to mention furthering my education to help create a better life for myself. Inconvenient is an understatement. Does Apple offer me any resolution to my problem -- NO. I received a different answer every time I spoke to a different representative of Apple. The only thing I was offered was to replace with the only 16GB model they carry in Apple stores -- the maxed out version. The kicker was I would then owe the difference -- $1300 and it still might be an LG.

Anyone have a direct line to engadget, gizmodo, or any tech sites to make them aware of how poorly Apple is handling this issue. An image remaining on the screen for 90 seconds after being on there for 60 seconds is not normal behaviour in any shape or form.

I dont think we should make multiple Facebook pages, but just stick to one (:

Anyway, I'm following this thread for about a month now, and this is my first message. My MacBook Pro got a new screen 2 weeks ago, but nothing fixed. Still an LG screen. So I called the Apple Store in Amsterdam and made an appointment for next sunday. They were suprised because they never heard of this issue and wanted me to show them.

So I hope I hope this problem will be fixed soon! And I will still follow this thread, hoping to see an official statement from Apple.
