MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Just got home from the bar with no replacement. The guy used the firmware BS, after a bit more talk he offered a screen replacement when the parts comes in. I just walked out. I'm going to bar hop, Luckly I live in Los Angeles so there's many apple stores around. The one I went to is in the Grove, I'm goin to try the one in Glendale and Americana tonight.

I see no reason why they should. You shouldn't be able to get replacement just because the computer contains a component from a vendor you don't like. You need to have an actual problem such as IR or some other demonstrable deficiency.

Unless of course Apple decides to do a recall on all units with LG screens, but that hasn't happened and probably won't because they usually only do something like that when there's a safety issue. But if you have a demonstrable problem, you've got a valid reason for asking for a replacement (or for them to service it and fix the problem).

Seems to be a bit too much FUD against LG versus Samsung Retina displays in the threads. 😁

Just because you have a LG screen doesn't equate to the likelyhood of a screen that might be prone to IR. LG/Philips is a major supplier of Retina screens for the laptop. If as JustSayNo says above, unless there is a high number of problem displays you won't get a replacment simply because its a LG screen.

My Retina MacBook Pro is LG based, so far no IR, and no stuck pixels. ( more annoying)

Actually your wrong . You have 14 days to get a REPLACMENT for any reason u see fit no questions asked. And if y read the thread u can see there is clearly an issue with the lg screens (I've already got my replacement coming tomorrow)

You have no choice of what screen vendor you get as a replacment. Yes its great that Apple has a no questions asked policy letting you exchange it 14 days out. Actually they will go a bit further then 14 days, but it has to be a decent reason for exchange. Also if you have Apple care and this is a legit concern you are covered during the duration of your warranty.

Like all forums the people who have no problems are less likely to be posting, then people who have issues that want their issue resolved.

I am another person with the issue. Additionally I have a weird dead pixels.

I've just got back from Apple Store where I've been told that "Expensive types of monitors - like the one in new MBPR, often is experiencing this problem, so it is not an issue." Also additionally I've been told that Apple is so far not acknowledging this as a problem.

I've been offered 3-5 day "repair" that "would probably come back not fixed". Since I cant wait more then 2 days ... I am stuck :|

Hopefully Apple finally will respond to this issue. Probably they are trying to avoid bad press that official statement could cause.

Thanks for collecting the data on this. Here's my history:

Week 28: LG with noticeable IR.

returned within 14 days

Week 33: LG with no IR (tested thoroughly)

Was bummed to get an LG twice, but the new one is quite nice. FWIW, I tested 3 display models in the Apple Store at Grand Central in NYC and all 3 were Samsung.

Aside from spending a huge price premium for a flawed product, I do visual design as part of my work.

Scrolling through a dark-themed app with light text is absolutely infuriating.

So you are in the category of people for whom this is a serious issue. I recommend getting a replacement.
