Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

If it's really LG/Sharp problem then Apple stopped using them after they were aware of this problem. New batches seem to be all Samsung.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Is anybody here that have a week 31 or latest with LG/Sharp screen. (If there is, it's not LG/Sharp problem or they've already solved the problem)

I guess not "all" the LG have ghosting issues no?

Otherwise we can just sent it back to Apple without open the box...

    I cannot believe it...

well apparently Samsung has better contrast and it looks more appealing to most people when put side by side with an LG

Mine rMBP with LG panel has the image retention issue AGAIN after replacement. I wasn't aware this until upgrading to Mountain Lion. It's been one month.

Will Apple let me replace a new machine? Their QC seems so bad this time.

When did you order and get your new rMBP?

One month ago. This is 2nd machine after replacement due to image retention issue.

My panel seems fine at the begining because I couldn't produce image retention one month ago. Now, I cannot belive that the issue happened again.

You would have to call 1-800-myapple

    and tell them your issue.

I believe your one-year limited hardware warranty is still there.

    So,

today I got a call from the Support again, after sending them an email that i still got problems with the display, and will be getting my second reaplacment. Already got the order confirmation. Really nice, hopefully it will finally solve the issue. (btw, I am sitting here in Germany, regarding support etc.)

Does somebody know if you could tell them that you only want a Samsung-Screen, since it seems that its only happening on the LG-Panels? Seems like they can check it before it arrives at your doorstep.

I talked to them about it, they seem to not know anything about the issue

So I don't think they'll give you special treatment on the screen until you get like 3 LG's with the same problem.

That's not possible. They are giving you a choice. Return it for a full refund or get a replacement if you are not satisfied with what you bought or it's not working well. Part of this satisfaction could be the company who manifactured your hardware. You could return it for full refund if its not Samsung or get a replacement if it's defective.

I can't believe that some people here got a replacement with the same issue again and again! Apple really should take good care of the people who returned for a replacement instead of refund. They trust Apple to do it again and they've already waited and suffered more than anyone else.

In my mind, because of the number of orders Apple has gotten for its rMBPs, they are just trying to pump out orders ASAP.

If they have and defects they'll just replace it rather than take the time to fix it.

Mine is on its way for delivery and will test this out asap.

    2.7ghz/16gb/768gb

    those are my specs.

    Just got my rMBP

    LG screen,

so far no image retention, need to conduct further testing though.

edit: screen is a little yellowish but that's just my color profile, like all default LG color profiles.

they're warm and looks like someone ****** on the screen.

Are you running Mountain Lion when you test for image retention? There's a thread on Macrumors that image retention suddenly showed up after upgrading to ML.

My replacement will get here tomorrow or wednesday, I'll update how it goes.

Yep I'm on ML right now and it's been running for well over an hour. No IR yet, still with a dark grey background.
