Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

My rMBP with a Samsung screen which I purchased in July has a slight yellow tinge in the lower right area of the screen. It is minimal and I didn't even notice it initially. Considering all the problems people have had with the rMBP I am happy that this is all that is wrong and I have no plans to return it. It is only noticable on a white or very light background. Otherwise the screen is just beautiful. It does have a warmer white color than my previous computer screens have had but is not yellow except for that slight tinge in the lower right area.

Hello guyes. I need you all to help me make decision. Now, my third replacement finally arrived. it comes with LG display. It was being tested for 2hrs. No IR, No DeadPix. It appears to be perfect. Also, i am keeping another one with Sumsung display, it is  yellow tint at the right corner, not really much. I am not sure which one i should return. Hundreds of post said LG will have IR after a few month use. Gambling on LG or keep the sumsung ?? MANY thanks for your answers

So I screwed up before and I apologize for the erroneous post.  I accidentally ordered a refurb non retina mbp which is the same price as my 2.3 Ghz i7 rMBP.  In my head cold induced haze, I didn't realize I selected the wrong model.  PRO TIP:  Never shop while hopped on up cold medicine.  So I returned that one and just got my rMBP today and here's the results of the terminal command:

    Color LCD

    LSN154YL01001

Needless to say I'm very happy.  The other bonus is that I ordered the entry model - the 2.3 GHz i7 with a stated 8 Gb of RAM.  Yet, the machine is reporting I have 16 Gb of RAM.  All the other specs match what's listed.  So to have a Samsung LCD and a bonus 8 Gb of RAM really made my day.  XCode should scream (or at least not choke as often).

    Good luck to everyone else.

You order a macbook, with retina I assume, that has a huge issue with the screen unless you get lucky and get a samsung that itself has it's own issue with mura and dead pixels etc, lol, what could go wrong? You didn't wonder why the seller is selling?

    eBay?! Are you serious?!

DomdiDom is right ... didn't you wonder WHY the seller is selling?!

Did the seller state that there is / was a problem regarding this issue?

If so, did they offer you any guarantee's?

    Is AppleCare included?

I really hope you don't get burned on this transaction. Some (not all) eBay sellers are notorious for misleading people about the items they sell.

I ordered a 15 inch MacBook Pro with Retina display refurbished from Apple today! I got the 2.6GHz/512GB model. Delivery is expected January 23-25. I will post screen results when I get it. Does anyone know what OS the refurbished models include? Is it Lion or Mountain Lion?

Mountain lion has been shipping with all new orders since July 25 2012 so most likely that's what you'll get, if not it's only a $20 upgrade on the app store.  Also you'll be promted to check for updates during the initial setup.

Unfortunately, yes. They all have some sort of issues unless you're extremely lucky.

I don't agree at all with Squilly827.  I've got a week 48 LG with no issues at all.  I even did an extreme IR test the other day, 2.5 Hours of checkerboard test on dark grey backround at full brightness with no sign of IR.

I've been checking this thread daily for a few months and the number of new complaints of IR have reduced to almost none.  So in the big scheme of things (estimating 133,000 rMBP shipping per month) I'd say there are very few LG displays with IR (or other) issues.  I'm sure there will be a lot of posts after this telling you the complete opposite and that I am wrong. But I have now met 5 other local rMBP / LG owners all of whom are either graphic/web designers or photographers and none of them have had any sign of IR or other problems with their rMBP's (all on their original rMBP delivered).  A good friend who has a Samsung version just returned his due to the fact he cannot get even close to an accurate white point of 65K for photo editing, (using xrite i1Pro calibration) while on my LG the colors and white point calibrate almost perfectly.  He's actually hoping for an LG as a replacement!

I also read a comprenhesive review on amazon which stated that at his work there were 3 laptops, 3 months old and none of them had this issue. In fact from 60+ reviews only 1 or 2 stated they had IR personally. In fact the laptop got 5 stars from the majority of users.
