Macbook Pro A1226 cant be formatted and do clean install of Mac OS

Hi, I accidentally copy the image from Mac OS X Base System to my main drive so now I cant delete it because it's locked. Every options under Erase are grayed out when it boots into Mac OS Disk Utility. Is there a way I can deleter/erase it because I want to move forward and install a clean copy of Mac OS X Tiger DVD that I have.

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6)

Drive Preparation

1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.

2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.

3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

Boot Using OPTION key:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
  3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
  4. Select the Installer DVD icon from which you want to boot.
  5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.

Note that the installer DVD you have must be able to boot your computer. Unless your MBP came with the Tiger DVD you are trying to use, the DVD will not boot the computer.

No. You cannot erase an active startup drive. To erase the startup drive you must boot from an installer DVD or from an external drive that has a bootable system. If this isn't possible then you need to purchase a Snow Leopard DVD that may be ablle to boot the computer or use the original DVDs that came with the computer.
