Transferring Appleworks files from IIgs to Macintosh

My cousin has many years of Appleworks files that were authored on her Apple IIgs. Does anyone know how to get these files into the Macintosh to use in Appleworks on the Mac?

Is this even possible?

Any help will be much appreciated.

I am told many of these files are IMPORTANT RECORDS!!

TIA

Appleworks 6.x can only read down to Appleworks 5/Clarisworks 5. You should convert the files into AW5 then you can open them in AW6.
By the way 1,44 MB disks with one hole closed are not very secure for data from IIgs-but fine that has worked.
You can get AW5 on ebay.
IF the text-files are RTF-files then you should be able to open them in AW6.
Good luck

Kieth,

If she can open the file and save it as ASCII text, any software will read it. I doubt that she has an option to save as RTF. The IIGS was discontinued about the same time as RTF was becoming a standard 'save as' option.

Keep in mind that Appleworks on the IIe, IIc and IIGS was totally different from the Clarisworks 2, 4, 5 and 6 versions on the Mac. Claris was discontinued and the next software release was called Appleworks. Maybe they think we have short memories.

It is like Filemaker 4 being purchased by Claris and repackaged as Filemaker II. that is the only time I can think of a version going backwards for a newer release.

Up to system OS 7.1 there was used AFE(Apple File Exchange).
You had to use it to recocgnize ProDos-Disks.The IIgs with HFS installed is able to read disks formatted on this old OS Format double-sided,800k!.The IIgs also can format a HD Drive with HFS and this can then be used on old Macs.
The later OS with PC-Exchange automates that.
Got that trouble first with my IIgs-PRODOS-disks to transfer text-with later OS's they work fine up to OS 9.1
Another hint: With Filesharing active it is not possible to read that disk even on PM7600-you get a message then.
