I reinstalled Lion and printer drivers are gone
How can I reinstall printer drivers? After reinstalling Lion, my MacBook Pro does not find the drib=vers for the printers. It worked perfectly before reintallation

Now that I think about it, I may have dumped the rest of the dirvers before restarting. Sorry. This whole thing hase been very tedious.
I had the same problems with HP drivers. Here's what I did, in order, to fix it:
1) Delete contents of /Library/Printers/PPDs.
2) Delete contents of /Library/Printers (except for PPDs folder).
3) Restart computer.
4) Run Software Update. Even if there's nothing available, this creates the /Library/PrintersInstalledPrinters.plist file.
5) Print something to the printer. Software should be properly downloaded and installed.
The problem I was having was that the software download would fail as "not available," I believe because the InstalledPrinters.plist file was missing. This step solves that problem.
Thanks for the review and the link. One HP printer stopped, but I could print through a Bonjour same-named printer. Then a label writer. Then this morning, the main HP stopped. All "off line." Followed the Apple guide. Slow but sure. And drivers from years ago popped up from somewhere. (Will have to find and trash them.)
