Removing Auto Page Numbers in Pages?

I have a Pages document and early on I clicked Auto Page Numbers. I have since made up my own heading which includes my name and the page numbers, but now I can't seem to get rid of the Auto Page Numbers. Plus - that Auto Page Number is way, way over to the right, outside of the margin, and the full number doesn't even show up in my document or when printing. I have been all over Pages, and I can't find how to remove this. When I pull down Auto Page Numbers from the Insert menu, it doesn't give me the option to delete it. Any suggestions?

Hall,

Auto Page Numbering won't install page numbering outside the margins, or even outside the Header/Footer fields.

It may be that you forgot to tell us that at some point in the history of this document it was in Word. There's a common Word import problem in which the page numbers end up in odd places and cease to function.

If that's the case, whether any of this rings a bell or not, here's the solution to this particular case:

  • Arrange > Make Background Objects Selectable
  • Format > Advanced > Make Master Objects Selectable
  • Select the number
  • Hit Delete

Oh thank you, thank you! The Format>Advanced>Make Master Objects Selectable actually worked! But I still am a bit puzzled, because I don't even have Word on my machine - so I have no idea how I ended up with half the Auto Page Number outside of the printable margin! Oh well, I know now, that I will just make my own headers.

And thank you so much for taking the time to answer me. Really, really appreciate it. Have a lovely day!
