Aperture Image Resolution Problem

I know there have been a lot of posts about image resolution, but I haven't found an answer to my problem.

I use a DLSR and and shoot in RAW and/or maximum resolution JPG. When imported to Aperture, the file size is usually in the 10-15MP range. However, when I try to email photos in their "actual size" or export photos to BookSmart (blurb) to create a photo album, the photos become compressed (to about 1MP). According to blurb support, my 10MP images are only 96 dpi, and not enough for a high resolution image.

I have my image export presets set to highest quality, original size, and 300 dpi, so I don't know what the problem is. Can anyone help me?

That worked! But I'm not sure why.

I understand that dragging and dropping would result in a low resolution image if the preview is set to "half size." But why would it result in low resolution if I'm uploading the image through Finder?

Also, why would a larger preview take up more space? I can understand that it may take more time to load the preview, but why would the preview need any more space if all the information is already in the image file?

Thanks for all your help Kirby and Badunit!

You imported RAW files into Aperture. It created jpg previews from those RAW files so now you have a RAW and a jpg version of each image. You have been finding the jpg previews in Finder and uploading them. The jpg previews were not full size.

Aperture creates new files, the jpg previews, from your imported images. A half-size preview is less MB than a full-size one. All of the information is not in the imported image file. Aperture doesn't touch the original file. All adjustments including RAW processing is applied to create the preview so you can drag and drop it.
