Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
On my old MacBook Pro, next to the battery icon in parenthesis it was tell me how much time is left in the battery. With the new MBPR, however, I can only get percentage left. Yes, I know if I click on the battery, it tells me the time, but does anyone know where I turned that feature on?

Interesting evil. That does lend credance to the theory that the Retina display power usage can fluctuate so much that it might be difficult to calculate a good time remaining value when that is in use.

Just got some more information off of a Stack Exchange discussion. Looks like it goes away for everyone in Mountain Lion and is not coming back.
Yes, SlimBatteryMonitor works, but unfortunately is not as elegant as the original feature... :-(
I wonder if this is because Apple is trying to make their laptops more inline with their iPhones/iPads like what they have done with the trackpad scrolling direction. iPhones/iPads only display battery percentage left and not battery time left.
Yes, but on iPad I usually do not do critical tasks. I do not care if I run out of battery when browsing web or watch youtube. But on Mac it is another story when I need to have work done when out of office.
Moreover iPad/iPhone runs on battery 10 hours+, but MacBook Pro with tethered iPhone 2,5. Also I can take actions to prolong battery life (dim screen, switch off unused apps etc) which is not possible on iPad.
I don't think this is the case. The types of use are completely different. You phone maintains a fairly constant battery drain through most of the day and it increases when you turn the screen on and then goes down when you put it away. If you want to speculate, it would be more likely that they are attempting to streamline the interface.

Thanks for Beta Battery Time - just checked. Looks good, but seems to function only until 15 August, we will see what is next - perhaps it will go to App Store.
