Is Anyone Having MacBook Pro Retina Display Graphics Issues?

My problem with the screen flickering was getting gradually worse and more frequent - occuring only when running on integrated intel graphics. I brought my 15" to Apple service centre. They diagnosed the problem as a fautly GPU and replaced the logic board within warranty. Great service. The flickering has gone away.

I think majority of people in this thread are having all sorts of different problems but mine is EXACTLY the same as you describe. Only happens when switching from/to Discreet Graphics and not every time. Every few days I would say. Did you manage to resolve this? Did you take it to Geniuses?

I was planing to take it to an Apple store but I'm shocked as there're no appointments 10 mile radius from North London in the next two weeks!

Yup - my flickering problem got fixed by replacing the logic board. Took about 3 days and I had my MPB back from the Apple service centre. The flickering has never re-occured ever since.

I was having the flickering issue, especially when lifting a lid after a long sleep. Doing a clean install to Mavericks has fixed the issue completely.

Before taking it into the store and going through that hassle, try a clean install of Mavericks, then restore from your TimeMachine backup. I think it was a graphics driver issue.

Have the people who have had their logic board replaced tried a clean install first? My theory is that the logic board replacement seems to have worked because it required a clean install of the OS as well. The logic board replacement might not be necessary.

In my case the problem did not go away with a complete drive re-formatting and clean install of Mountain Lion. Still on the same OSX installation that was flickering and after the logic board replacement the flickering went away.

Btw. when they replace the logic board, the data stays on SSD untouched unless you request otherwise.

Thanks for that! Heading to apple store today as the occational flickering isn't the only issue I'm having. The HDMI output is gone for 30 seconds 3-4 times a day, hardware diagnostics do not even start via "D" key and instead of resetting the NVRAM via Command (⌘), Option, P, and R it loads recovery... Weird. My best guess is that all those issues are at least on firmware level if not hardware.

Yes! My graphics card just failed. It is the third logic board failure on my 15" MacBook Pro Retina.

Hi, had the same issues again. For me these steps always did help. I think they were posted in this discussion earlier - so no credits to me 😉

It seems jerky scrolling and graphical issues caued by software can be fixed with this:

Step 1: Delete system windowserver preferences

1. In the Finder, from the menu bar, select "Go -> Go to Folder..."
2. Enter: /Library/Preferences/
3. Delete the file called com.apple.windowserver.plist

Step 2: Delete user windowserver preferences

1. In the Finder, from the menu bar, select "Go -> Go to Folder..."
2. Enter: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/
3. Delete all files that start with com.apple.windowserver (On my rMBP, there was one file called com.apple.windowserver.12AFB147-95D6-5C70-8F62-C1E4F2BE81BE)

Step 3: Reset the PRAM (These instructions are from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379)

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.

Didnt solve the problem for me. Still jerky scrolling in all web browsers. 😕

I bought a MacBook Pro Retina 15 " 2,3ghz 16gb ram, after 10 days I had problems with the video card when I used mission control and track pad.

they sent me a new mac 2,6 ghz 16gb ram (top) but that after 20 days the same problem.

they are now changing the logic board because spent more than 14 days of purchase.

I hope they fix the problems this time and see if the problem is hardware or software

I have replaced the logic board and the mac was fine, the next day stsso problem. the technician told me that it is not a logic board problem but preferences, in fact if I delete the preferences in the library mac works, I have to find which program creates a wrong preference to the system that creates conflict.

Yep, mine just went in for the second logic board replacement in just under a year (early-2013 15" rMBP). GPU panics both times; always down in the NVidia-specific code. And then the store just called me to say the replacement board they'd ordered failed as well! Why can't the stores keep a few of each generation's logic board in stock so you don't have to

- wait around for them to get one delivered from CA, and then

- wait some more because that one failed as well?

Pretty poor quality GPU; somehow Apple just hasn't figured out how to source quality graphics processors. One more trip to the repair facility and I'm dumping the thing and throwing Ubuntu on a high-powered Lenovo 😟

I got my logic board replaced also for the 2nd time. Again GPU related issues. I'm staying with Apple - much better than Lenovo. I'm so glad I got rid of my W520 having random shutdowns that 3 motherboard replacements could not fix...
