Your sarcasm won't get you far with us Vacationing iOS experts 👿

The simple answer to both questions, which have been asked and answered hundreds of times (using the search bar can actually be effective and shouldn't be too much to expect) is that there is no way to change autofill on iPad, except to turn it off: Settings > General > Keyboard > Auto-Correction

It's the only possible response from a user-to-user forum. No one here can "fix" this problem. No one here can magically provide a solution.

Nelsonsnoozer, you posted your question on June 22nd. Today is August 17th. I'm quite shocked that not a single person has cared to reply on your important question, especially since 10 other people have the same question! Are all the iOS experts on summer vacation?

I would like to expand on the original question by asking how I can "correct" iOS AutoFill. I love my iPad 3, but AutoFill in Mobile Safari is downright stupid. I've filled out forms on hundreds of websit forms, but never once has AutoFill got my email address right. It puts my website URL down instead! How can I change AutoFill so it puts down my email address instead of a silly URL?! Certianly there must be a way. And certainly one of you iPad/iOS experts reading this must know!

Thanks.

Ah, but my dear rbrylawski, if sarcasm had no positive effect in getting others in-the-know to post, I would not use it so often. But it did prompt you to post (albeit, a tad disgruntled)! :-) I would also like to add that replying to this thread (however terse and unhelpful it seemed to have been) is worth it. I only found it by Googling. No doubt others will too, which would go a long way to explain why 10 people have the same question!

sberman, I believe you have provided the "solution" to Mobile Safari AutoFill woes: the Contacts app. Upon closer examination, I see that in my own Contact info, somehow, a URL from one of my websites found its way into the Email address section. I never put it there, so it must have gotten then by syncing from my iMac. At any rate, I have deleted that out of the the Email Address section (web URLs have their own separate section in the Contact card), and I will see if that is a long term solution to the problem. Many thanks!

This is not sarcasm, it is unbridled anger. This is such an obvious flaw in the iOS Mail Program and there is a long history of complaints about it. And yet the "genius" software analysts at Apple are incapable of fixing what my 40 years of experience in software tells me should be easily fixable in a decently designed piece of software. Let's see, Mail maintains a cache of email addresses. This list can get longer, if you keep adding addresses. So there is a counter indicating the number of items in the cache. So you have a configuration switch to set the counter to zero. Now was that so difficult?

Merely telling people that what they need to do (and clearly is a shortcoming of the software) is impossible is NOT a response. I was always told how much better Software Engineering is at Apple compared with Microsoft (and don't get me started with them). I now have serious doubts.

Thank you, Meg.

I am fully aware that this is a user forum and obviously I do not expect the users here to fix this problem. But I strongly doubt that this has not been brought up numerous times with the good folks at Apple.

My complaint is the original shoddy software development and the lack of response once this glaring error has been brought to their attention.

I didn't mean to step on any toes here. I was just venting, because I have grown weary of the substandard software development at Apple.

You haven't insulted me, nlandis. I actually applaud you for your bravery in taking on the folks who literally live in this forum and never get outside to see the light of day, which explains why they can rack up 20,000+ points. Never fails that these gurus here always say the same old thing, "submit more feedback to Apple." I guess that's how you really rack up the points here. Regardless, I'm actually a bug submitter of feedback to Apple, and yet not much really changes. So what you said is perfectly valid and legitimate in this forum. Some may take it as rude, but you can't please all the people all the time! Again, I applaud you.

But getting back to the topic of this thread though, I must again repeat that my own auto fill woes were resolved simply by editing my personal info in the Contacts app. However, I still feel it would be more intuitive to have such a fix done within Safari, since auto fill is exclusive to Safari.
