FIRMWARE NOT COMPATIBLE FOR UPATE TO 5.1.1, FIRMWARE NOT COMPATIBLE FOR UPATE TO 5.1.1

whiling updating mu iphone from 4.2.1 to 5.1.1 the message displayed my firmware is not compatible for update

what does that means

iPhone 4, iOS 4.2

Are you sure you have an iPhone 4 and not an iPhone 3G (which can't be updated beyond 4.2.1)? If you aren't sure, check here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939.

I'm having the same problem, was advised to restore but i get the same error message for that. definitely an iphone 4. did you figure yours out?

Make sure iTunes is up to date. If not, update it, restart your computer and try again.
