Can't install iTunes

When I run the iTunes setup, a windows pops up written : "iTunes + Quicktime" showing a box and a white bar (for filling maybe). Then a second after, a window pops up and writes :

Errors encountered while performing the operation
Look at the information window for more details

There are no information window.

I have downloaded the setup 5 times, and it always showed that same message.

Could you help me?

Thanks in advance for your concern.

top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are

- turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests

- installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

- setting up Norton to allow iTunes

- scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)

- last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts

Post back with any questions or your solution.

I have downloaded the standalone QuickTime five times, but I get an new error message.

Some installation files are corrupt.
Please download a fresh copy and retry the installation.

I always get that same message, but the progress bar sometimes goes to the 2/3, and when I redownload, it stops at another place.

Is it the file corrupt or my computer corrupting it?

Hi gang,

Katrina, your first list of solutions was great, and i too had to solve that problem a while back, and it took time, a friend purchased a Packard Bell laptop and when u load itunes onto it, it not only fails to load but it disables the driver that identifies the DVD rom for the Os, and to solve the problem you must run regedit for the registery and delete 2 files. i found this out only after many attempts to re install itunes/qt.. but if u go to PB site and look up the problem, it shows u a step by step way of solving it. i think that emeralds problems are in this area.

Ya the problem acually extends to Dell, Hewlett Packard, and packard bell machines, im unsure about compac, alienware, etc... but if u look on the support site for your machine, you might get a way through it, Katrina advice is A1 as always, a clean uninstall, then get the newest verion of iTunes from the apple site and download the quicktime pro standalone, and make sure to download that first.. before u download itunes. Hope u get it sorted soon!

hi... i was having the same kind of problems. i started out wanting to update quicktime.. and had to update itunes and qt at same time. when i did, nothing worked. additionally, my norton started freaking out. so, i DLed the quicktime stand alone (as someone else suggested), copied all my itunes music (in case i lost it), removed itunes, re installed itunes and the stand alone qt, and then repaired my norton. now, it all works. hope this helps.
