If you do not need notifications, turn this feature off. Or go into the iPad Settings app, look for all of the apps listed on the left and selectively turn off notifications and location settings for apps you do not use often or turn off notifications completely.
Make sure Airplane mode is turned off.
If you are not using any Bluetooth devices,,make sure Bluetooth is turned off. Turn Bluetooth on only when you need Bluetooth device/s to operate.
In the Settings app, set the Auto lock timer for a short period instead of a long period. Use either the default 3 minute setting or the 5 minute setting. This will allow the iPad to go into sleep mode faster and preserve battery life.
You need to play with the iPad's brightness setting to get the iPad to a useable, but power conserving brightness level. Experimentation with this setting is key to longer battery life.
I have my brightness level set about 5/8 or so up the brightness line during the day and then I lower it to half or slightly below the halfway mark when I operate it at night.
The exception to this rule is when I am watching videos and I kick up the brightness almost fully, but not quite all the way to the right for max. Brightness when using my iPad to view movies or TV shows.
Make sure you are not leaving a lot of apps open in the background. Dbl click the Home button to bring up the multitasking bar/manager, hold down an icon with your finger then delete any background apps that you do not use on a regular basis. This doesn't delete the app rather it quits or stops the app from running in the background.
Having lots of apps running in the background can eat up battery life.
Also, try and NOT let the iPad's battery drain all the way all of the time. I let my iPad 3 drain down completely only 2-3 times a month. It's not good for the battery to always being constantly discharged.
Hopefully these tips will help you.
