asus blu-ray writer not recognized by iMac

Just purchased an Asus Blu-ray writer model SBW-06D2X-U.

For some reason the iMac doesn't recognize the USB drive.

Asus says their unit is plug and play, but it doesn't appear to be doing anything. The lights on the drive come on and you can hear the drive trying to recognize the disc but still doesn't seem to show up anywhere.

I've tried various suggestions on the Apple site but still nothing.

I am using Toast 10 and have a blu-ray driver but Toast does not recognize the drive either.

Suggestions?

FYI,

The supplied Roxio Toast 10 software does not create or burn BluRay discs.

You will need to upgrade Toast to the latest version that does support BluRay which Toast Titanium 111 or Toast 11 Pro.

Also, there is no native support in Macs for watching BluRay DVD discs.

You will need an OS X BluRay player app to watch BluRay DVDs.

Oone such software is VLC Player which is free OR if VLC won't play BluRay content use this,

Good Luck!

Same here, Toast Titanium 11 didn't 'see' the Asus drive for burning a data Blur-Ray. It had worked fine before but yesterday I couldn't get it to work. The only drive it would find is the internal broken drive.

I tried several combinations of connecting, booting and launching Toast but had to give up in the end. Watched a movie with an external Lacie DVD drive.

This morning I gave it another try and magically it's now working.

I am having the same problem myself. Regrettably there is no answer here. Having Toast Titanium of any version has absolutely nothing to do whether your MAC can recognize that you have a burner mounted to your computer. The fact is that most burners on these threads were once recognized and now they are not. Some people have theorized it's because of the operating system update.

I was trying to burn a Blu-Ray movie using Adobe Encore, but now it doesn't even see the Asus burner, like it used to. To take it a step further, Encore wasn't even seeing the built in super drive to burn DVD's. However I navigated through that problem.

Hello,

Do other USB things work in that port?

reset FW bus, same goes for USB reset...

Reset the Firewire bus

If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device. A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:

1. Shut the machine down.

2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.

3. leave it for 10 minutes.

4. Connect back up and reboot.

Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...
