Brand new iPad - frustrated with Kindle app

Hello All - total newbie question (first day with iPad):

I downloaded the Kindle app for my new iPad

I registered it and got a kindle email address

I went to my Mac and logged into my kindle library. There is a dictionary there (assume it is a free gift). I clicked download to iPad. the screen says sent to iPad - nothing arrives

I downloaded kindle for mac

There are three classic books that are downloaded for free with the Mac app.

Again, nothing syncs to my iPad. The dictionary is not synced to my Mac

I am signed into Amazon using my personal email not the kindle email address

When I tried to log into Amazon using the kindle email address I got an error message

What am I doing wrong?

TIA

Is the iPad connected to the internet, and which button is selected at the top of it (All Items, Books, Newsstand, Docs) ?

In the Kindle app, if it's linked to your Amazon account (which you can do via the cog at the bottom of the app), not the kindle email address, then you should be able to click on the 'Cloud' button at the bottom of the app to see which books are linked to your account, and you should be able to tap on thebooks with downward-pointing arrows on them to download them to the iPad - they should then show if you click on the Device button at the bottom of the app (and possibly tap All Items at the top of the screen).

King_Penguin

The iPad is connected to the internet

The All button is selected

The app is linked and I can see it using Manage My Devices on the Amazon website

There are no books linked to my account on the App but there are the three free books that I can see using the Kindle for Mac app

I was able to email a document to myself using the kindle.com email address

I just seemingly can't sync books 😟

Does your Amazon account show in the iPad's Kindle app if you tap the cogwheel at the bottom right of it (and the email address) ?

Where did the free books come from ? If they didn't come from Amazon (and you have them on your computer apart from in the Kindle for Mac program) then you could try syncing them to iPad's Kindle app via file sharing : select the iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, select the Apps tab on the right-hand side, scroll to the bottom of it, and then select the Kindle app - file sharing.

If it shows your Amazon account name then you should be able to see your Amazon kindle books by tapping the Cloud button at the bottom of the screen.

If that doesn't work then try logging out of your account in the app by tapping Update to the right of your name in the cogwheel and then Deregister, and then log back in with your Amazon account id and password (not kindle email address) and see if the books then show via the Cloud button

Thank you

I did deregister and I also bought a free book at the Amazon website

The free book downloaded perfectly

Now the dictionary that was on my account tells me it won't download so I deleted it

So the scoreboard is:

Kindle website shows the free book I bought

Kindle app for iPad has the free book I bought

The Kindle for Mac has the three free books that came with it and the free book that I bought

It looks like those three books are included with the Kindle For Mac program - I've just downloaded and it came with Treasure Island, Pride & Prejudice and Aesop's Fables, but they don't show on my account for downloading on the iPad's Kindle app. If you want those books on the iPad then you can probably find other free versions of them in the Amazon Kindle store which you can 'buy' and then download.

I tend to use the Kindle app more than iBooks, partly due to the range and price of books (iBooks now has more books than it used to have, but it's still not as big as Amazon, at least here in the UK), and partly because I've also got a Kindle ereader.

You can use both apps and buy your books from where they are cheapest - but wherever you buy a book you will only be able to read it in that store's app i.e. ibooks in the iBooks app and Kindle books in Kindle apps/ereaders.
