Flickering Retina Display

Hello,

displaying e.g. a neutral grey background, my retina display starts to flicker.

some grey websites "flicker" as well.

it is not related to display brightness.

anyone else with this issue?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Haven't been to the store yet (first chance will be 2 days from now on Monday), but I have an observation to share:

- I am now even more convinced that the problem appears due to heat in the display.

When the issue begins to be very noticable I put my palms on the back of the display, the lower part (only there I can sense a bit more heat, and it isn't even that much, really), and while the heat transfers to my hands I definitelly see how the flicker becomes less noticable.

I really hope they will fix this on Monday and that I will be able to resume my work. 😟

As promised, I will share what happened in my case:

- First, I refined the procedure to reproduce the issue - read articles with white background in the browser for 30m - 1.5h and then check for flickering on this page: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.php#invpattern

(Don't run the tests on this page, just check the background on the landing site)

- Second, I left my macbook in the local Apple repair center and after they managed to reproduce the issue, they replaced the display.

- Unfortunatelly, the first replacement came deffective (not sure if it was the same issue);

- When I went to get it, the display wasn't properly attached (I noticed that the display wasn't exactly centered on the main piece, you should check for this, yourself), so I asked them whether this is OK or not - they reattached it properly within 5 min.

- After I started testing at home to see if the issue will show up again, I found out that the keyboard backlight wasn't working - they messed it up by misstake while replacing the display. So, check the keyboard backlight.

- The next day I went to the store again and they fixed the issue right away.

That's about it.

I first noticed this problem about two months ago while riding a train from NY to Boston. There was a very heavy screen flicker. I searched the boards here, but found nothing. In frustration, I disabled my wireless. Voila! The problem disappeared. I've since had this issue in a few other places, mostly where there are many people connected to one wireless network. Everytime, if I disable my wireless, the problem goes away. It returns immediately if I enable my wireless again. I doubt I'd be able to reproduce this effect reliably anywhere (except on the train, I bet), especially at the Genius Bar, so I tool a short video. See it here: http://youtu.be/IYTOARXYdDU
